The Venue’s tried and true 1.2-litre normal petrol engine has 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque. It’s only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine makes 120PS of power and a healthy 172Nm of torque from as low as 1500rpm, which stays strong till 4000rpm. It’s available with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The two engines put the Venue’s power output at the extremes of the segment. Its turbo petrol is pretty fuel-efficient too with figures comparable with the Brezza.

2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol - E Variant
The E variant of the Venue costs Rs. 6.7 lakh and is only available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. It covers the basic safety requirements with rear parking sensors, ABS, 2 front airbags, day/night inside mirror and a few other features. Functional features of the E variant include front power windows, tilt steering and a manual AC. There’s no music system in this variant, which you might have to install from the aftermarket. But the attractive price tag gives you the entry into the sub-4m SUV space as the Venue’s E variant is the most affordable subcompact SUV. But the black grille will announce it from a distance that you’re driving the most affordable variant.

2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol - S 1.0 Turbo Variant
If you want some performance out of the Venue, then the S variant is also available with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with almost 40PS more power and fatter, wider torque band. Its bottom end torque should make it easier to drive the car in the city and get better acceleration without having to downshift often. Even on the highways, its significantly better torque will allow you to cruise at a relaxed pace and overtake with minimal downshifts. To top it all, you can expect better fuel efficiency than the 1.2 with this more powerful petrol engine.
However, if you’re looking for long-term reliability, then this engine may not be for you. This is the first turbo petrol engine with direct injection from Hyundai in India. How it’ll perform in India’s climate and driving conditions is not known at the moment. You may face some niggles and may have to make more visits to the service centre than you would with the 1.2-litre normal engine. But if you want better performance, drivability and fuel efficiency, this 1.0 turbo is the engine to go for.
The S 1.0 variant costs Rs. 8.46 lakh, which is Rs. 1.06 lakh more than the S 1.2. It gets no extra features over and above the S 1.2 except for that engine swap. In the case of the Aura, Hyundai charges Rs. 1.0 lakh for this turbo petrol engine. In the Nios, this turbo petrol engine is available for Rs. 1.25 lakh more than the normal petrol engine. Considering that you’re getting a less powerful, 100PS version of this engine with a 5-speed gearbox in the Nios and Aura, Rs. 1.06 lakh for 120PS and 6-speed MT sounds reasonable. But if you can stretch your budget, then you could get a better value with another variant of the Venue.
2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol - S 1.0 Turbo Automatic Variant
If you want the Venue with a petrol engine and an automatic transmission on a tighter budget, then the S automatic is your only choice. It costs Rs. 1.14 lakh more than the S 1.0 manual and gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The ex-showroom price of the S automatic is Rs. 9.6 lakh.
It gets additional features like hill-start assist, ESC and a colour MID. For the premium, it’s again a justified price hike. However, as we said with the S 1.0, if you can afford and want better value, then you’ll have to consider a higher variant of the Venue.

2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol - SX Variant
Now, the Venue petrol’s SX variant is only available with the smaller turbo petrol engine and costs Rs. 9.79 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s Rs. 1.33 lakh more than the 1.0 S MT.
For that sum, you get features like:
- Electric sunroof
- Projector headlamps
- Projector fog lamps
- 8-inch touchscreen infotainment
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Automatic AC
- Power-folding outside mirrors
- Cruise control
- Rear parking camera
- LED DRLs
- 16-inch alloy wheels
For the incremental price, the SX variant more than just justifies its worth and is our top recommended variant as it offers the best value for money.

2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol - SX Plus Turbo Automatic Variant
The SX automatic costs Rs. 11.35 lakh, which is Rs. 1.75 lakh more than the S automatic and Rs. 1.56 lakh more than the SX manual. On top of all the features of the SX manual variant, SX Plus automatic brings a few more like:
- Auto-dimming inside mirror with telematics
- Tyre pressure monitoring system
- Bluelink Internet-connected features
- ESP
- Hill-start assist
- Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
- Air purifier
- Wireless phone charger
Once again, this variant is a fantastic value and worth upgrading over the S automatic or even the SX manual. If you can afford it, go for it. It’s our top-recommended variant of the Venue petrol with an automatic transmission.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 Petrol Is The Best Value For Money?
The E variant of the 2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 is the most affordable variant not just of the Venue but in the entire subcompact SUV segment. It’s priced well and is a good buy for buyers on a budget.
The S 1.2 is suitable for those who are comfortable with its barely enough power output and value long-term reliability over outright performance. Although, it’s slightly expensive over the E variant.
The S 1.0 is an affordable entry point into the performance zone and the price over the S 1.2 is justifiable. But if you can afford, consider upgrading to the SX or SX Plus variant. These are very easy to recommend for the excellent incremental value they offer over the lower variants.
The SX (O) is suitable for those who want extra features and safety. It’s also priced appropriately for what it offers over the SX variant.
