Why Should You Buy Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid Automatic? | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki are gearing up to launch their compact SUV, the Grand Vitara, this festive season. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with 2 engine options – a 1.5L strong hybrid that offers a class-leading fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl and a 1.5L mild hybrid that is already on offer in several Maruti cars. In this article, we help you decide whether you should buy the Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid manual or automatic.

Here’s Why You Should Buy The Grand Vitara Mild Hybrid Automatic

The 1.5L mild hybrid petrol engine in the Grand Vitara comes with 2 transmission options — a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Grand Vitara mild hybrid manual variants are cheaper than the automatic variants. However, if you have the budget, here’s why we think you should choose the Grand Vitara automatic over the manual.

The 5-speed manual transmission gets shorter gear ratios and this helps the Grand Vitara offer peppy performance in the city. However, the shorter gear ratios have a shortcoming too. Out on the highway, the shorter gear ratios lead to the engine feeling quite strained at high speeds. At 100kmph, the 1.5L petrol engine revs a shade under 3000rpm with the 5-speed manual. A high revving engine not only leads to a loss of fuel efficiency but also refinement levels inside the cabin as well.

The 6-speed automatic, on the other hand, helps the Grand Vitara cruise with the engine spinning at 2250rpm. Hence, the Grand Vitara automatic offers a more relaxed driving experience on the highway while also returning impressive fuel efficiency.

While most car owners these days prefer an automatic for city driving, the Grand Vitara mild hybrid automatic may not meet your expectations in terms of fuel efficiency. Like every other torque converter automatic transmission in the market, the Grand Vitara also gets fluid coupling that is not efficient in stop and go traffic.

Hence, if you see yourself spending more time in city traffic than out on the highways, we recommend you to check out the Grand Vitara mild hybrid manual or the Grand Vitara strong hybrid. But for all other intents and purposes, the mild hybrid automatic should serve you well.
