Kia Carens Clavis Vs Rivals — Engine Specs & Dimensions Comparison

In this article, we’ll present the 2025 Kia Clavis petrol and diesel engine specs and compare them against its prime rivals like the regular Carens, the Hyundai Alcazar, the Maruti XL6 and the Citroen Aircross. We’ll also look at the ground clearance of the Carens Clavis 2025 rivals and their mileage. Let’s start with the petrol engine spec comparison.

Kia Carens Clavis Vs Rivals — Engine Specs & Dimensions Comparison

Kia Clavis 2025 Vs Rival — Petrol Engine Spec, Mileage Comparison

The Carens Clavis gets 2 petrol engines — a 1.5L normal petrol and a 1.5L turbo petrol.

The normal petrol engine only gets a 6-speed manual transmission. It makes 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque and promises 15.34kmpl of mileage.

The turbo petrol engine is available with 3 different transmission options:

  • 6-speed manual
  • 6-speed auto-clutch manual
  • 7-speed dual-clutch automatic

The Clavis turbo petrol makes 160PS of power and its 253Nm of torque peaks between 1500 and 3500rpm. With both kinds of manual transmission, the Clavis turbo has a claimed mileage of 15.96kmpl. With the dual-clutch automatic, it claims to deliver 16.66kmpl.

Against its rivals, the Clavis turbo is quite powerful. Only the Alcazar matches the Clavis as it also has the same engine. The Aircross non-turbo comes across as quite underpowered and so is the XL6 with its 103PS of power output and just 137Nm of torque. However, in terms of fuel efficiency, the Maruti XL6 beats its rivals with ease as it’s the only one breaching the 20kmpl mark in official figures.

For those interested in getting an aftermarket CNG kit, the Carens as well as the Clavis non-turbo is a decent option with none of the mechanical complications that come with a direct injection turbo petrol engine. The non turbo is also suitable for buyers who don’t intend to frequently use the 3rd row as it can satisfactorily drive around with 4 or 5 occupants.

One surprising thing to note here is that the Carens Clavis has a lower mileage than even the Alcazar, which has larger wheels (means more rotating mass) and a boxier, less aerodynamic body.

Kia Clavis 2025 Vs Competitors — Diesel Engine Spec, Mileage Comparison

With the diesel engine, there are only 2 other cars in the same price range as the Clavis — the Carens and the Alcazar.

Since all three cars have the same engine, they deliver the same power and torque of 116PS and 250Nm. Here too, the Alcazar has a better mileage figure than the Clavis despite a larger wheel size and boxy design. The older Carens, with smaller, 16-inch wheels, has a better ARAI mileage figure of 21.30kmpl but no option of an automatic transmission or even auto-clutch manual, for that matter.

Kia Clavis 2025 Vs Competition — Dimension, Ground Clearance Comparison

In terms of dimensions, the Clavis and the Carens are nearly identical. Since Kia haven’t confirmed the ground clearance of the Clavis or the Carens, we expect it to be around 180mm. Since the official ground clearance figures are specified in the unloaded condition, with a full load of 7 occupants, they will sag a bit. And in that situation, the car should be able to go over typical Indian speed bumps without a hiccup. For that reason, we expect them to have around 180mm of clearance.

In terms of boot space, the Carens and the Clavis are at the top with 216 litres of storage with all 3 rows up and 645 litres with the 3rd row folded. The cargo volume of other cars with 3rd row folded is in the 500-600 litre range. With all 3 rows up, the Aircross has the worst cargo volume of just 44 litres.

While almost all cars in this comparison get a 45 litre fuel tank, the Alcazar gets a larger 50 litre tank. With its higher mileage than the Carens, you can have slightly longer refill intervals with the Alcazar.

The Carens, Clavis and the Alcazar are longer and wider than the Aircross and the XL6. The Kia twins also have the longest wheelbase measuring 2780mm. Once again, the Aircross has the smallest wheelbase of just 2671mm.

In terms of wheel size, the Clavis has the widest variety with wheel sizes ranging from 15-inches to 17-inches but the biggest wheels are available with the Alcazar.
