The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid and Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid overlap considerably on price, but the 2 take different approaches to the 3-row strong-hybrid formula. We compare their prices, dimensions, powertrains, seating options and features to see where each makes more sense.

The Sorento Hybrid and Innova Hycross Hybrid overlap on price, but Kia and Toyota structure their ranges quite differently depending on the second-row seating layout.
The Sorento Hybrid is available with a second-row bench throughout the range, while captain seats are offered from the HTK variant onwards. Toyota offer both layouts on the Hycross VX and VX (O), but the higher ZX and ZX (O) variants are captain-seat only.
The following table compares their ex-showroom price ranges by seating layout:
Toyota have a clear price advantage if you want captain seats. The Hycross Hybrid offers them from Rs. 26.76 lakh, while the cheapest captain-seat Sorento Hybrid costs Rs. 34.19 lakh.
The situation is different if you want a second-row bench. Toyota stop offering one after the VX (O), while Kia retain the 7-seat bench layout all the way to the top of the Sorento Hybrid range.
Among the bench-seat variants, the closest price match is the Sorento HTE 7S at Rs. 29.49 lakh and Hycross VX (O) 8S at Rs. 28.82 lakh. The Sorento costs Rs. 67,000 more, making these the most relevant variants for the detailed feature comparison later in the story.
The Sorento has the larger body, while the Hycross has the longer wheelbase.
The dimensions of the Hycross vary slightly depending on the variant. The VX (O), which we use later for the similarly-priced bench-seat comparison, measures 1850mm wide and 1790mm tall.
The following table compares their dimensions:
The Sorento is 60mm longer and 50mm wider, while the Hycross has a 35mm longer wheelbase despite its shorter overall length. In practice, the Hycross makes better use of that space in the third row. It is easier to get in and out of, and adults can sit there more naturally.
The Sorento’s third row is more compromised. Access is difficult even with the one-touch fold-forward-and-slide second-row seats, and adults sit in a knees-up position once they are in. So, while the Sorento has the larger body, the Hycross is the more practical 3-row family car.

The extra 50mm of width of the Sorento could help when seating 3 occupants across the second-row bench, although we would need to put the 2 cars side-by-side to judge the difference in shoulder room.
The Sorento’s 24mm ground-clearance advantage should give it more room over broken roads and large speed breakers.
Both models use strong-hybrid petrol powertrains, but their layouts are quite different.
The Sorento combines a 1.6L turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The Hycross uses a larger 2.0L normal petrol engine with an electric motor and CVT.
The following table compares their powertrain specifications:
The Sorento and Hycross use fundamentally different hybrid setups. The Kia relies on a smaller turbocharged engine and a conventional stepped automatic, while the Toyota pairs a larger normal petrol engine with an e-CVT.
We cannot make a meaningful performance comparison yet because Kia have not revealed the Sorento Hybrid’s combined system output.

The same applies to running costs. The Hycross claims 22.16kmpl, but there is no corresponding Sorento Hybrid figure yet.
The Sorento does offer 4-wheel drive, but only on the substantially more expensive HTX and HTX (A) variants. So, 4-wheel drive is an advantage of the Sorento range rather than of the variants that directly overlap with the Hycross on price.
The Sorento is available as a 6- or 7-seater, while the Hycross Hybrid is available as a 7- or 8-seater depending on the variant.

For a like-for-like bench-seat comparison, the Sorento 7-seater therefore needs to be compared with the Hycross 8-seater.
Toyota count 3 occupants in the Hycross’ third row to arrive at the 8-seat figure. In practical adult use, fitting 3 people across the last row is tight. So, the Hycross 8-seater is more realistically used as a 2 + 3 + 2 layout, just like the Sorento 7-seater.
Among the bench-seat variants, the closest price match is the Sorento HTE 7S at Rs. 29.49 lakh and Innova Hycross VX (O) 8S at Rs. 28.82 lakh. The Sorento costs Rs. 67,000 more.
The following table compares their key features
Neither variant has an overwhelming feature advantage.
The Hycross VX(O) costs Rs. 67,000 less yet offers a panoramic sunroof and 360-degree camera.
The Sorento HTE instead gets a 10-way powered driver seat, wireless phone charger, larger touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels and a driver knee airbag in addition to the front, side and curtain airbags offered by both cars.
This makes the choice fairly straightforward: the Toyota packs in more of the high-visibility convenience features, while the Kia puts more equipment around the driver.
The price difference grows considerably if captain seats are important.
Toyota offer the Innova Hycross VX Hybrid 7-seater from Rs. 26.76 lakh. The ZX and ZX(O), priced at Rs. 31.20 lakh and Rs. 31.84 lakh, are also 7-seaters and add powered second-row captain seats with extendable leg rests.
Kia only offer captain seats from the Sorento HTK Hybrid 6-seater at Rs. 34.19 lakh. That makes the cheapest captain-seat Sorento Rs. 7.43 lakh more expensive than the Hycross VX 7-seater.

Even compared with the Hycross ZX, which gets powered captain seats with extendable leg rests, the Sorento HTK 6-seater costs Rs. 2.99 lakh more.
So, buyers who specifically want captain seats can get them for considerably less money in the Hycross. Kia’s advantage is different: it continues to offer a second-row bench throughout the Sorento range, whereas Toyota stop offering one above the Hycross VX(O).
The 2 hybrids compete most directly between Rs. 29.49 lakh and Rs. 31.84 lakh.
Within that overlap, the Innova Hycross Hybrid makes the stronger value argument. Its closest bench-seat rival, the VX (O), costs Rs. 67,000 less than the Sorento Hybrid HTE, while Toyota also make captain seats available much lower down the price range.
The Sorento Hybrid becomes a different proposition above Rs. 32 lakh. The Hycross range ends there, while Kia let buyers spend another Rs. 8 lakh or so for more equipment, 4-wheel drive and other SUV-focused hardware.
