Maruti recently launched the Dzire CNG AMT with a starting price of Rs. 8.53 lakh. The CNG automatic variants are Rs. 81,000 more expensive than their direct petrol automatic counterparts but promise lower running cost. Using current Delhi fuel prices and Maruti’s claimed mileage figures, we calculate the distance required to recover the higher upfront cost.

The 2026 Maruti Arena Dzire CNG AMT has a claimed mileage of 36.47kmpkg while the petrol AMT has a claimed mileage of 26.13kmpl.
For these calculations, we use Delhi fuel prices as of October 1, 2026: Rs. 102.12 per litre for petrol and Rs. 86.98 per kg for CNG. Check out the V3Cars fuel price tool to check the latest fuel price in your city.
Based on these figures, the Dzire CNG AMT saves Rs. 1.53 per km compared to the petrol automatic version. Therefore, every 1000km in the CNG version saves approximately Rs. 1,530 in fuel costs.
The CNG Automatic model costs Rs. 81,000 more than the respective petrol automatic model. The CNG version also saves approximately Rs. 1.53 each KM it runs. With this data, we can calculate the distance it would need to run to recover the additional cost paid upfront.
Since the price premium is identical across both variants, each Dzire CNG AMT requires around 53,300km to recover its additional upfront cost. At 1500km per month, this would take nearly 3 years.
The sole competitor to the Dzire CNG AMT is the newly launched Tata Aeris iCNG AMT which uses a space-saving two-cylinder layout. The Hyundai Aura is also available in CNG but does not offer an automatic transmission as of now.
Here is a quick comparison of the engine and transmission of the 2026 Maruti Arena Dzire AMT models:
The engine produces around 13PS and 10Nm less in the CNG mode. However, it delivers its peak torque 1600rpm earlier than it does in petrol mode. Drivers have the choice of selecting gears manually using the transmission lever.
Maruti have equipped the Dzire with integrated wiring, stainless-steel pipes and joints, and an interlock that prevents the engine from starting during CNG refuelling.
The Dzire CNG is equipped with a 55L water-equivalent CNG tank. But unlike the updated Brezza, which mounts its CNG cylinder below the body, the Dzire gets the cylinder inside the boot. The AMT improves convenience in traffic, but it does not solve the practicality disadvantage of the conventional single-cylinder CNG layout.
The Dzire CNG AMT is better suited to buyers with high annual running. Its Rs. 81,000 higher price takes around 53,300km to recover through fuel savings alone. That works out to about 4.4 years at 1000km per month, nearly 3 years at 1500km per month, or over 2 years at 2000km per month.
Buyers with lower monthly running may take too long to recover the CNG premium to justify it on fuel savings alone. The petrol AMT also costs less upfront, offers higher power and torque, and retains more usable boot space. The CNG AMT makes a stronger case for buyers who cover longer distances regularly and plan to keep the car long enough to benefit from its lower running cost.
