2019 BMW 8 Series To Debut On 15th June 2018
BMW is all set to reveal the production version of the 8 Series at the 24 hours of Le Mans on 15 June 2018. We have seen a Gran Coupe concept and an official M8 GTE race car since the German luxury automaker unveiled the BMW 8 Series concept almost a year ago. The concept has been in news since its debut regarding the production spec of the concept making its debut and finally the reports are making rounds on the internet that the production version of the 8 Series concept will make its debut in June this year.
According to the reports in the market, the 8 Series will set the stage at the 24 hours of Le Mans on 15 June 2018, the race debut of the M8 GTE. This information was revealed to a BMW M client advisor, one of five M sales winners to be flown out to France to witness the M8 GTE compete in the 24-hour race.
The production spec of the car has been spied several times testing here and there, the images have revealed a lot about the design and features of the upcoming car. Though, the styling has been tamed down in the production spec as compared to the 8 Series concept even in the M Sport variants, however, the cars do get a sporty front fascia with a wide grille, slender headlights and large air intakes with honeycomb mesh inserts.
Making it in-line with the sporty styling, the M-Sport package appears to include lightweight wheels and blue brake calipers. Apart from this, the aerodynamic side skirts, a ventilated rear bumper and a four-tailpipe exhaust system which is hidden behind the dual exhaust cut outs will also be seen on the upcoming production version of the BMW 8 Series concept. Though, both the coupe and convertible get largely identical designing and styling elements, the coupe gets more stylish features in the form of a sloping roofline, muscular rear fenders and a small rear spoiler. However, the power retractable soft top that requires a number of changes to the rear ends including a flatter trunk lid and a repositioned third brake light are the factors that make the 8 Series convertible slightly less adventurous as compared to the more stylish coupe.
Apart from the exterior, the interior of the upcoming BMW 8 Series concept based cars have also been spied. While we have seen earlier that the drivers will sit behind a three-spoke steering wheel and a high-tech digital instrument cluster, the model also gets metallic accents, a stubby gear selector and an iDrive controller with a knurled surround. The recent spied images show the brand’s new digital instrument panel. The new digital instrument panel gets two digital “gauges” that kinds of replicate the traditional dials of a current BMW. While the speedometer is placed on the left, on the right are its revs. However, the digital dials with needles as found on other BMW cars are not there. There will also be digital speed readout in the center of the speedometer.
Mechanically, the upcoming BMW 8 Series production version is likely to borrow the powertrain from the 7-Series hence we can expect a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder developing around 335 hp. Other than this, a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 producing approximately 455 hp is also expected to come with the cars. However, those looking to buy a more powerful version can opt for the M8 which is likely to use an upgraded version of the 4.4-liter V8 engine borrowed from the M5. However, the performance details of the engine are still not confirmed. Reports also suggest that BMW might offer an M Performance variant, a plug-in hybrid and a luxury model with a V12 engine.
