The Honda Amaze petrol has 90PS of power, which is better than the Dzire, Aura and Tigor 1.2, but not as good as the Aspire or the Aura’s turbo petrol engine. Its torque output is the least in its class and it also comes in late at 4800rpm, which suggests that it’s not the easiest to drive in the city as it’ll require you to downshift and rev frequently if you want to accelerate quickly. However, among the cars with 4-cylinder, it has respectable power output. 4 cylinder engines are inherently balanced and are naturally smoother than 3-cylinder engines.
The Amaze petrol is available with a 5-speed manual transmission, which is par for the course but the automatic transmission is of CVT type, which is far superior to the AMT automatics, which are offered with the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura 1.2 and Tata Tigor. Since a CVT automatic doesn’t have gears, there’s absolutely zero jerk or head-nod felt when accelerating or decelerating unlike any other kind of transmission. But it also means that it’s one of the expensive automatic transmission options in the segment.
The Amaze BS6 promises a fuel efficiency of 18.6kmpl with the manual transmission and 18.3kmpl with the automatic.
2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - Dimensions Comparison
All sub-4m sedans are equally long but the Dzire is the widest while the Tigor is the tallest. The Ford Aspire has the longest wheelbase in the class, which helps liberate some legroom in the cabin. The Amaze leads the pack with respect to the boot space, narrowly beating the Tata Tigor. It’s worth noting here that the hinge mechanism for opening and closing the boot does eat into the boot space. Since the Tigor has hydraulic struts instead of a spring-loaded hinge, despite its 1.0-litre disadvantage, it may offer better boot space than the Amaze in real life. So, the Amaze doesn’t seem to excel in any manner in the comparison of the dimensions.

2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - E Variant
The E variant of the Honda Amaze petrol costs Rs. 6.1 lakh. It gets the standard safety features like 2 front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, day/night inside mirror and ISOFIX child seat anchors. It also gets power windows, MID and boot light.
Since it doesn’t get central locking and music system, we’d recommend this variant only to those who’re on a tight budget. This is also the variant, which received the biggest price hike of Rs. 16,900 after the BS6 upgrade.

2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - S Variant
The S variant of the Amaze costs Rs. 6.82 lakh, which is Rs. 72,000 more than the E variant’s ex-showroom price.
The prominent additions to the S variant include remote central locking, a music system, electrically-adjustable and foldable outside mirrors, rear centre armrest and wheel covers. The S variant is also available with CVT automatic, which costs Rs. 90,000 more at Rs. 7.72 lakh. It gets a gear position indicator. Technically, a CVT automatic doesn’t have gears. But Honda has programmed multiple shift points in its CVT and this indicator shows which of those shift point is currently selected.
The S variant doesn’t justify the price jump of Rs. 72,000 over the E variant but it does have a nice balance of functional features. Go for it only if you can’t stretch your budget further. If you’re looking for the best value, then keep reading further.

2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - V Variant
The V variant of the Honda Amaze petrol costs Rs. 7.45 lakh, which is Rs. 63,000 more than the S variant. The price gap remains consistent between the S automatic and V automatic, which costs Rs. 8.35 lakh.
The V variant offers rear windshield defogger, keyless entry and push-button start/stop, a bigger MID, LED position lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels. The automatic variant also gets steering-mounted paddle shifters to jump between those pre-programmed virtual shift points so you can manually decide if you want to drive in taller or shorter transmission ratio.
This variant totally justifies its cost even if you consider the price and feature gap over the E variant. This is our top recommended variant in the Amaze petrol lineup.

2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - VX Variant
The VX variant is another Rs. 48,000 dearer and costs Rs. 7.93 lakh for the manual transmission. At Rs. 8.76 lakh VX automatic is only Rs. 83,000 more expensive than the VX manual and Rs. 41,000 dearer than the V automatic.
This variant adds a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, cruise control and a rear parking camera. For the price increase, it’s adding features that you can either add later from the aftermarket (touchscreen) or features that you’re rarely going to miss (cruise control). It doesn’t justify spending Rs. 48,000 over the V manual variant. In the case of the VX automatic, it doesn’t get cruise control, which makes it a worse value proposition than the VX manual. This is not our recommended variant based on the value for money.

2020 Honda Amaze BS6 Petrol - Verdict
Out of the 4 variants of the 2020 Honda Amaze petrol, the V variant offers the best value for money. The E variant is too basic but still worth considering if you’re on a budget and are comfortable getting some features from the aftermarket. If we consider the E variant as the baseline, then the S variant and VX variant don’t justify their price premiums for the features they offer.
