The highly awaited Kia Seltos has made its world premiere in New Delhi, India. With the official unveiling of the Seltos, South Korean Kia Motors has marked its entry into the vast and rapidly growing Indian auto industry. The Kia Seltos is the first offering in India from the house of Kia Motors India out of the list of long upcoming planned vehicle models for the domestic market. The Seltos is based on the Kia SP Concept SUV, which was showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo and received a lot of praise.
In terms of looks, the Kia Seltos is a highly stylish, contemporary and sporty looking SUV that keeps close to its concept model. The Seltos flaunts all-LED lighting and the patent Kia ‘tiger-nose grille’ design. The compact SUV will launch with 8 monotone exterior color options along with 5 dual tone exterior scheme choices.
The Seltos will be available in both petrol and diesel engine versions. The petrol version will get powered by a 1.4L turbocharged mill and a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine option. On the other hand, the diesel version will pack in a 1.5L oil burner. All these three will be BS6 compliant engines.
Transmission duty will be carried by three automatic (a CVT, a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed AT) gearbox choices, while a 6-speed manual transmission option will also be there. The 1.4L turbo mill will be paired with the DCT in the GT Line variant. There will also be three driving modes, namely - Eco, Normal and Sport as well as three terrain modes – Wet, Mud and Sand on offer.
Kia has launched in India as a premium automaker following its global positioning as an affordable premium mass-market brand. Keeping with this brand position, the new Kia Seltos will come as a highly feature-rich, premium offering. It will offer features including a huge 10.25-inch touchscreen, a premium Bose audio system, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated seats, automatic climate control with an air purifier and rear AC vents, front and rear parking sensors and a sunroof.

The Seltos has been also endowed with a connected car technology that Kia calls the UVO Connect. This system offers 37 features under 5 categories, namely- Safety & Security, Navigation, Vehicle Management, Remote Control, and Convenience. The UVO Connect software will be offered free for all Seltos owners for the first three years of ownership.
The Seltos’ other safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, brake assist, Hill Assist Control and Vehicle Stability Management that will be available on the top-spec model. Moreover, the 360-degree camera also comes with an integrated blind view monitor and driving rearview monitor.
The all-new Kia Seltos is expected to officially hit the car market of India for sale by September this year just prior to the festive season. The Seltos is likely to come with a price range of around Rs. 10 lakh – Rs. 16 lakhs. Post its launch, it will rival the likes of the Renault Duster, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks, Mahindra Scorpio and its cousin Hyundai Creta.
