    All You Want To Know About Upcoming 2017 Volkswagen Passat

    Volkswagen has officially confirmed regarding the launch date of its upcoming sedan Passat in India. The sedan is scheduled to be launched on October 10, 2017 and with this the VW Passat will re-enter the Indian market as well after being discontinued in the year 2014. Production of the sedan is already underway at the company’s Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra and the luxury sedan will be VW’s first luxury sedan to be based on the MQB platform. The 2017 VW Passat GTE was previewed first at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

The sedan is scheduled to be launched on October 10, 2017 and with this the VW Passat will re-enter the Indian market as well after being discontinued in the year 2014. Production of the sedan is already underway at the company’s Aurangabad plant in Maharashtra and the luxury sedan will be VW’s first luxury sedan to be based on the MQB platform. The 2017 VW Passat GTE was previewed first at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

     

    The 2017 VW Passat will come powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine producing a 174.4 bhp of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque combined with a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Also, the engine has the capacity to reach the sprint of 0-100kmph in just 8 seconds with a top speed of 220kmph. It will come with front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. However, earlier it was reported to be offered with a 1.4-litre engine that has been replaced by the new engine. Also, the Passat GTE Hybrid version is also expected to make its way to India. Although it is not confirmed yet but if it happens then Passat GTE will be the first plug-in hybrid car from VW in India.

     

    Measuring 4,767mm in length, 1,832mm in width and 1,456mm in height the upcoming model is 2mm shorter, 12mm wider and is 6mm lower in height. The wheelbase has also been increased by 79mm to 2,791mm. According to the company, the weight of the car has been reduced by 85kg, because of being based on the new MQB platform.

    Talking about the design styling and features, the upcoming VW Passat looks quite aggressive and refreshed as compared to the previous generation Passat. At the front, the sedan gets a new four-bar grille, prominent hood, LED headlamps, fog lights and re-designed bumper with integrated C-shaped LED lights. Apart from these, there are some other highlights at the exterior such as LED taillights, revised rear bumper and a new trucklid along with flared wheel arches fitted to bigger alloy wheels.

     

    At the inside, the manufacturer is likely to offer a number of premium and comforting features such as a Head Up display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster inspired from Audi TT. Also to be features are leather wrapped flat bottom steering wheel, a restyled gear knob, a tweaked infotainment system and blue ambient lighting. The German automaker has also increased the boot space of the car by 26-litres.

    Moving towards the safety features, the next-gen VW Passat will get nine airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), brake assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, rear view camera, etc.

    The premium sedan will take on the Honda Accord, Skoda Superb and the Toyota Camry as its arch rivals. While the new Honda Accord and Toyota Camry come with the hybrid powertrain, the Skoda Superb is available with both petrol and diesel engine options.
