Tata Motors has introduced the Tamo Racemo in the country at the 2018 Auto Expo. This is the first time that an automaker has showcased sports car in the country that has been developed and manufactured in India. The Tamo Racemo was first introduced at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show internationally and the sports car also won the German Design Award in the Gold category for International Excellence in ‘Exceptional Product Design’ in October, 2017.
Built on a wholly new modular platform called MOFlex MMS, Tamo Racemo is a two-seater sports car. Tata Motors has put on display two versions of the Racemo Sports Car- One is powered by a petrol motor while the other is the electric version of the same, named 'Racemo +-'. The petrol powered Tamo Racemo gets a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine which puts out 187 bhp of max power and 210Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed AMT with paddle shifters and is capable of doing 0-100 kmph in less than 6 seconds. On the other hand, the electric version of the Racemo gets a 202 bhp motor which boasts of a 350 km range from its lithium-ion battery pack.
Talking about the design and features, the newly introduced Tamo Racemo looks quite futuristic and prominent. While the scissor doors and an exhaust tip that’s mounted high up gives a feel of luxurious supercars by Lamborghini and McLaren. Apart from this, the sports car also features Tata Motors’ signature ‘Humanity Line’ and the ‘Diamond DLO’ offered with other modern cars by the manufacturer.
According to Tata Motors’ global design head, Pratap Bose, “All of us at Tata Motors are very proud and excited about bringing the car (Racemo) to India.” However, he didn’t reveal any plans to bring the sports car in the Indian market anytime soon but the hint definitely gives hope towards seeing the Tamo Racemo in the country in the future.
