German luxury automaker BMW has released an official statement saying that Vikram Pawah has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Australia and New Zealand. Vikram will be taking over his new responsibility from August 1, 2018 onwards and has also been promoted as the Chairman of BMW Group India and will remain committed to the Indian market in his expanded role.
Announcing the new appointments, Hildegard Wortmann- Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, BMW Group said, "Pawah brings excellent preconditions to lead BMW Group operations in India and Australia. Under his leadership, BMW Group India has successfully stood ground in a fiercely competitive environment and gained significant momentum in the Indian luxury car market".
According to the released statement, Hans-Christian Baertels, director (finance and administration) at BMW Group India will take over as the acting president. Vikram Pawah joined BMW Group India in January 2017 and has more than twenty five years of automotive experience. In the past, he has held multiple leadership positions at Honda Cars in Australia and India, and Harley-Davidson India.
Recently, BMW India registered a growth of 13 per cent in the period of January 2018 to June 2018 over the same time period in 2017. The company sold 4,890 BMW units in the first six months of 2018 along with 281 units of Mini and 208 motorcycles and the sales of BMW units alone saw a growth of 12 per cent while the sales of Mini saw a growth of 30 per cent during the same time last year. This is the best ever half-yearly sales performance from BMW in India till date. Apart from this, BMW also launched the 320d Gran Turismo Sport in India priced at Rs 46.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India) with the mid-spec Luxury Line variant of the luxurious vehicle priced at Rs 49.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the top-end M Sport variant costs 51.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The BMW 320d GT Sport is only available in diesel option.
