The upcoming Tata Harrier, the much anticipated SUV by the automaker is all set to make its debut in the first week of December this year. Though the official announcement is yet to be made, Tata Motors has already started sending out media invites for the event. According to Tata Motors, the Harrier has been tested for over 2.2 million km under different terrain and weather conditions and their latest teaser video throws light on the air conditioning abilities of the Harrier that has been shot in the deserts of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The vehicle was first showcased as a concept at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year.
Tata has been testing the SUV extensively in the country and the SUV has been spotted testing a number of times revealing the design and feature details at the exterior as well as at the interior. Tata Motors recently teased a video of testing the SUV vigorously on the terrains of Leh and the car was also spotted during the handling tests at the NATRAX test track near Indore.
The Tata Harrier will be the first SUV in the company's line up to get the Impact 2.0 Design philosophy with heavy resemblances with the H5X concept. Built on OMEGA architecture, a derivative of the L550 platform underpinning the Discovery Sport, the new Tata Harrier and Discovery sport will also share a 2,741 mm long wheelbase. At the exterior, the SUV will feature large front grille and headlamps, sleek LED DRLs and massive bumpers at the front, 17 or 18- inch alloy wheels, a floating roofline, raked windscreen and blacked out B Pillar at the sides and high set tail lamps with C pillars getting triangular quarter glass will be seen at the rear.
At the inside, the cabin of the upcoming Harrier will be premium and will feature a large touchscreen infotainment system that should support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as Harmon Kardon audio system, a dual tone color scheme, memory function on front seats while central arm rests, rear AC vents and steering mounted buttons, while the safety features will include ABS and EBD as standard along with airbags, hill descent control, traction control and roll over mitigation.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Tata Harrier will come with a new 2.0 liter Kryotec diesel engine which is a derivative of the Fiat MultiJet II engine seen powering the Jeep Compass. A 4 cylinder, turbocharged engine offering 140 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox while a 6 speed AMT could also be on offer.
Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Harrier in 2019 and will offer the SUV in both 5 and 7 seater options. The expected pricing for the vehicle is expected to be between Rs 12.5 lakh – Rs 16 lakh, ex- showroom. When launched, the upcoming Tata Harrier will rival against the Hyundai Creta primarily. Bookings for the Tata Harrier have already commenced at the company's dealerships across India at a minimum token amount of Rs 30,000.
