British auto brand MINI has revealed that the company is getting all set to start the production for the fully-electric version of the MINI 3-door model from next year. The Mini models have been popular across the world as they are known for offering a perfect combination of compact sportiness, premium and distinct look and feel and awesome performance. Now, going with the changing global auto industry, Mini has decided to go the electrified way by introducing its very first all-electric version.
Mini showcased its first all-electric concept model at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, which grabbed attention of the audience and garnered a lot of praises. The concept model flaunted futuristic design appeal, along with distinct styling that is different from the ongoing Mini models, but yet offered an unmistakable Mini appeal. The production version of the all-electric Mini model will be based on the concept model, and although it will have some design changes, will have similar design cues to the showcased concept model. Earlier this year, the design sketches of the new upcoming Mini electric vehicle were revealed, which also confirmed that the car will flaunt the futuristic styling that were first showcased at Frankfurt.
As per the reports, the Mini will be offering this all-new all-electric 3-door model with three different drive options to choose from, namely - combustion engine, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric drivetrain.
The electric drivetrain of the upcoming electric MINI model will get manufactured at its German parent company BMW Group’s Plants in Dingolfing and Landshut. The auto major has also revealed that the electric Mini’s drivetrain will be getting fitted into the car at the BMW Group’s Oxford facility. The German auto giant has chosen its Oxford facility to integrate thedrivetrain into the upcoming electric Mini model, as the facility is already responsible for the production of the majority of the three door models from the famed British brand.
The upcoming new all-electric 3-door MINI model will flaunt a lot of interesting design features that are futuristic, distinctive and off-beat at the same time, offering a very unique appeal to the vehicle. And while it will be representing MINI’s fully new design language for its future cars and electric models, it will still manage offer the patent visual DNA of the age-old and celebrated MINI cars. The upcoming electric-Mini model will be coming with a completely closed iconic hexagonal front radiator grille along with the prominent ‘E’ badging to announce its all-electric quality.
MINI has taken the step towards electrified cars keeping in line with its German owner BMW’s progression towards the future electric mobility system. BMW is already preparing a slew of advanced, futuristic EV (electric vehicle) models to add to its ever growing global lineup, and its owned British brand MINI is also following suit. The electric vehicle models are certainly the hottest thing at present, as they are going to rule the future automobile market in the world. Given that the zero-emission EVs are really the need of the hour and due to the governments’ urge, all the global auto majors are working busily towards the transition to the future all-electric auto industry.
