Toyota To Soon Launch Rumion, An MPV Based On Maruti Ertiga Facelift | V3Cars

Last year, Toyota launched the Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion in South Africa. Toyota are now preparing to launch the Rumion MPV in India. However, the Rumion that will go on sale in India will be based on the upcoming Maruti Ertiga facelift, which is slated for launch in the next quarter of 2022. It will get a few styling updates inside and out, along with a new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. We expect Toyota to launch the Rumion in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The changes on the exterior of the Ertiga facelift are limited to the grille. However, we have seen in the spy shots of the new Maruti Baleno and the new Toyota Glanza that they have more differentiating factors than before, including headlights and bumpers. We can expect the same on the Rumioin as well. Toyota could provide the Rumion with a different headlight, grille and bumper to differentiate the Rumion from the Ertiga.

Maruti could also update the interiors of the Ertiga and give it the new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will make its debut in the new Baleno.  The rest of the interior design will remain the same, with a beige dashboard and upholstery. The interior of the Rumion will closely resemble the Ertiga’s cabin.

A new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will be the other addition to the new Ertiga. It will replace the old, 4-speed torque converter. The same transmission will make its way to the Toyota Rumioin as well.

The Ertiga facelift will retain the current 1.5L normal petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. It produces 105PS of power at 6000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 4400rpm. Maruti will pair it with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed TC automatic transmission. Toyota will provide the same powertrain with the same tuning in the Rumion.

Expect prices of the Ertiga facelift to rise due to the addition of a new infotainment system and a new transmission. Toyota could charge a premium over the Ertiga for the added warranty that they provide.
