Honda City Hybrid Unveil On April 14 | V3Cars

Honda Cars India are all set to unveil the City Hybrid on April 14. We expect the upcoming City Hybrid to be the most affordable, true hybrid sedan in the Indian market. The City Hybrid will have a strong hybrid powertrain, as well as advanced driver aids (ADAS) and a sporty RS body kit.

Honda already offer the City Hybrid in the Thai and Malaysian markets. The City Hybrid, which Honda like to call ‘City e:HEV’, gets a 1.5L petrol engine coupled with twin electric motors. The engine produces 98PS of power and 127Nm of torque. While the first electric motor acts as an integrated starter generator, the other one assists the engine. The electric motor's power and torque outputs are 109 PS and 253 Nm, respectively.

As we stated earlier, the City Hybrid will also offer ADAS. Honda calls their ADAS features ‘Honda Sensing’ and here’s what it offers:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Auto High Beam (AHB)

Some rumours back in 2020 suggested that Honda may launch the City RS with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine in the Indian market. However, as things stand now, the City Hybrid is likely to incorporate the sporty RS body kit. The RS kit on the Thai-spec City Hybrid includes a black grille, RS badging, side skirts, a boot lip spoiler, and all-black interiors.

2022 City Hybrid

At launch, the Honda City Hybrid won’t have any direct rivals. Speaking of hybrids, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gets a mild-hybrid setup that helps improve fuel efficiency in stop-go traffic conditions. The City Hybrid, on the other hand, uses its combustion engine as a generator, and it’s the electric motor that contributes the most to the power delivery. We expect Honda Cars India to price the Honda City Hybrid in the range of Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh ex-showroom.
