Honda HR-V, a compact SUV that was earlier spotted undergoing testing in India, is reportedly not set to enter our market anymore. It is rumoured to have undergone two phases of testing before being ruled out internally at Honda. The HR-V was supposed to take on the likes of the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta in the compact SUV space.
The Honda HR-V is also known as Vezel in some international markets. The Vezel/HR-V was not planned for the Indian car market initially for reasons best known to Honda. The carmaker instead planned an entry in the compact SUV space via BR-V, Brio-based compact SUV.
As per the sources, Honda was extensively focusing on localizing the HR-V, but the company could achieve only around 30 percent localization levels. In comparison, SUVs like the Jeep Compass were launched with twice heavier localisation levels.
The HR-V was internally planned for a festive season launch, but it seems like Honda will instead focus on existing models. The carmaker’s top-selling sedan -- City -- is in the last stages of its current generation, and the new model is likely planned for a launch in the next two years. At the moment, Honda is readying to launch the new Jazz globally. It remains to be seen whether the new Jazz will come to India or not, but it seems certain that the new Jazz-based crossover -- WR-V -- will make it to our shores.
