Hyundai have officially confirmed that they will introduce a new internal combustion engine (ICE) midsize SUV in India. While the company are yet to reveal the name or any technical details of the upcoming model, the announcement is highly relevant to the Bayon-based SUV that V3Cars spotted testing a few months ago.

The new SUV is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s India portfolio. Based on our understanding of the company’s product plans, the India-spec model is expected to feature a more upright and boxier design than the global Bayon and could be launched around the last week of October 2026.
Hyundai’s latest product announcement confirms that a new ICE-powered midsize SUV is in the works for the Indian market. However, the company has not disclosed its name, launch timeline, dimensions, powertrain options, features or expected price.
Hyundai have also not officially confirmed that this new SUV is the India-spec version of the Bayon. However, the confirmation comes after the company was spotted testing a new SUV that we believe is closely related to the upcoming Bayon-based model.
Based on our earlier reports, the upcoming SUV is expected to be positioned between the Venue and Creta, giving Hyundai an additional model in the increasingly competitive B- and C-segment SUV space.
The global Hyundai Bayon has a crossover-like profile, but the India-spec SUV is expected to receive a more upright and conventional SUV design.
Spy shots of the test vehicle suggest a taller-looking body, squared-off proportions and a flatter roofline. Hyundai are expected to prioritise interior space and road presence, with the new model expected to be closer in size to the Maruti Suzuki Victoris than the Venue.
The SUV is also expected to retain some of the Bayon’s design influence, including slim lighting elements, chunky body cladding and a distinctive rear lighting signature. However, the final production design and dimensions remain unconfirmed.

The more upright proportions are expected to give the upcoming Hyundai SUV a more spacious cabin than the Venue. The flatter roofline and more vertical rear section should improve rear-seat headroom, while the additional length could free up more space for passengers and luggage.
The new SUV is also expected to target buyers looking to upgrade from smaller SUVs while offering a more affordable alternative to the Creta.

Hyundai are yet to confirm the powertrain options for the new SUV. However, based on our earlier understanding, the India-spec model could borrow its engines from the Creta.
The expected lineup includes a 1.5L normal petrol, 1.5L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine options. Hyundai could also offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain based on the 1.5L normal petrol engine.
If introduced, the CNG version could use an under-floor dual-cylinder tank layout to reduce the impact on boot space. This would make the upcoming SUV one of Hyundai’s largest CNG-powered SUVs in India. There is currently no confirmation of a hybrid powertrain.

The upcoming SUV is expected to receive several features already available with Hyundai’s larger SUVs. Depending on the variant, these could include:

The higher variants are expected to receive most of the premium features, allowing Hyundai to position the new model as a more upmarket alternative to the Venue.
The upcoming Hyundai SUV is expected to be priced between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 17 lakh (ex-showroom). This would allow it to not only compete with the Maruti Suzuki Victoris in the C-segment but also the the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and other SUVs in the B2-segment.
The new SUV will also sit below the next-generation Creta, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027 with a more premium positioning.
While Hyundai have not announced a launch date, we expect the new ICE SUV to make its debut around the last week of October 2026.
