The upcoming Nissan Kicks compact SUV has been one of the highly anticipated launches in India. Recently, the Japanese auto maker has teased the India-spec model of its new Kicks to build up the buzz against the SUV prior to its official Indian unveiling. The Nissan Kicks SUV will be launched in India in January 2019 and will be unveiled officially in the country by the end of this year.
Nissan has big plans for the Indian market and is preparing hard to strengthen its positioning along with its cost-effective brand Datsun in India by launching a slew of new models, improving its R&D facilities and after-sales services and expanding its dealership network. The India-spec Nissan Kicks compact SUV will be a slightly different than the international version, as it will have larger dimensions and will have a different platform. The Indian version of the Kicks is underpinned by the same platform of the Nissan Terrano, Renault Capture and Duster in India. The Nissan Kicks will be similar to the Renault Captur in terms positioning, but is expected to be packed with even more premium features.
On the inside, the Kicks SUV is likely to come fully loaded with a long list of enticing0 features including a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support among much more.
In terms of exterior styling, the India-spec Nissan Kicks SUV is likely to be almost exactly the same as the global counterpart. However, the new SUV’s under the hood specifications are expected to be different just as its platform. Nissan is actually looking to have high localization levels for the Kicks in India in order to price it competitively. Thus, under its skin, the India-spec Kicks will be quite different than its global model. The right styling, features, performance along with great pricing are essential for the upcoming new Nissan Kicks compact SUV to get success in the highly competitive Indian car market.
The Kicks will be directly going against the massively popular and segment leader Hyundai Creta, and thus, Nissan has to carefully pack the Kicks to divert the attention of the Indian urban SUV buyers. The Nissan Kicks will also go up against the likes of the larger Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market. On the whole, the Kicks will have to fight in a tough battleground in India.
Under the hood, Nissan Kicks SUV is expected to share the Renault Duster and Captur’s 1.5 litre K9K diesel motor and the 1.5 litre petrol mill. However, the Japanese automaker might also employ the more powerful 1.6 litre petrol engine to do the duty under the hood of the Kicks just like the Brazil-spec model, to mark it apart from the Renault Captur.
Considering, that the Nissan Kicks has a very contemporary and aggressive exterior styling and is a premium SUV model packed with great features, it is expected to attract the modern style conscious Indian SUV buyers, if Nissan can price it right. The Kicks SUV is definitely expected to boost the falling sales of Nissan India.
