Jeep Compass Petrol Longitude (O) variant launched in India at Rs. 18.9 lakhs
Jeep India continues to make most of the great success that it tasted with the Compass SUV. FCA India continues to focus on the Jeep brand in India and till now that means focusing on cashing in on the Compass’ popularity in the country and to keep the SUV’s customer interest fresh. Thus, Jeep India has introduced a new petrol variant of the highly popular Jeep Compass compact SUV. The new Jeep Compass Longitude (O) variant has been tagged at Rs. 18.9 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The Compass petrol version was earlier offered in only the base Sport, Limited, Limited (O) and Limited Plus trims.
The Jeep Compass SUV is available in the current Indian car market with both petrol and diesel engine choices. Under the hood, the Compass petrol version packs in a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine which is capable of generating a maximum power output of 163 PS along with a top torque of 250 Nm. The refined petrol engine gets coupled with a sophisticated 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission gearbox in the newly introduced Longitude (O) petrol trim model. This same transmission unit is also offered on the Limited model trim, while the Sport variant comes equipped with a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox. The petrol version of the Jeep Compass SUV does not come with All Wheel Drive (AWD) system option.
On the other hand the Jeep Compass diesel version gets equipped with a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder Multijet II diesel motor from Fiat’s stable, which is good to belt out a peak power output of 170 bhp along with a top torque figure of 350 Nm. The diesel engine gets mated to a 6 speed manual transmission gearbox. The diesel variants of the Compass come with both 2-Wheel Drive system and All-4 Wheel Drive system options.
Coming back to the newly launched Jeep Compass Longitude (O) petrol trim, the most notable features that mark this trim level apart from the lower variants and make things interesting for the buyers include a large 7 inch UConnect touchscreen display integrated infotainment system, dual zone air conditioning system, smart keyless entry, pushbutton start and stop, projector headlights along with cornering function, rear parking sensors and much more.
The Jeep Compass Longitude (O) petrol automatic variant is around one lakh cheaper as compared to the Limited trim model, while being slightly over three lakhs dearer than the base level Sport model trim. The Jeep Compass compact SUV already has quite an extensive range in India, while the introduction of the petrol Longitude (O) variant further enriches the SUV’s current lineup, and offers better choice for the buyers.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India is rather giving up on its Fiat brand, due to its poor sales, while being fully focus on building on the Jeep brand name that is hugely respected in this country. The Indian SUV market is getting highly competitive with innumerable upcoming launches in all segments. Jeep is thus trying to retain the charms of the Compass intact with several variant additions. This year is also expected to witness the launch of the much awaited Compass Trailhawk top-end trim in India.
