Kia India have commenced the bookings for the Carens. You can book the Carens from any Kia dealership or online via Kia’s official website for Rs. 25,000. There is no cancellation fee from Kia, but in the case of bank transfer, they will charge a nominal processing fee of Rs. 15 plus taxes. For all other payment modes, the processing fee is Rs 250. We expect Kia to reveal the prices of the Carens in Feb-Mar 2022.

Carens shares its engine options with the Seltos with the exact same power and torque outputs. The 1.5L normal petrol engine in the Carens makes 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque. This engine will only come with a 6-speed manual. The 1.4L turbo petrol engine makes 140PS of maximum power and 242Nm of peak torque is available with both manual transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
There is also a 1.5L diesel engine on offer, which makes 115PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. It’s available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The variant-wise powertrain and seating options are mentioned in the table below.
It is worth noting that the 1.5L normal petrol engine is available in the two lower variants only. In these variants, there’s no option of automatic transmission with any of the engines.
While you can have the turbo-petrol engine with an automatic transmission in Prestige Plus and Luxury Plus variants, the diesel-automatic powertrain is only available in the top-spec Luxury Plus variant.
The optional captain seats are only available in the top Luxury Plus variant. All other variants will get a bench seat in the middle. That said, air-con vents are available in all the rows right from the base variant.
Carens shares the platform and powertrain options with the Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Alcazar. While the Carens gets the same seating layout as the Alcazar, it is slightly larger. You can see the difference in dimensions of the Kia Carens and some comparable cars in the table below:
It’s worth noting that the Carens’ wheelbase is larger than that of the Toyota Innova Crysta and MG Hector Plus even though it’s smaller than these cars. Kia are yet to announce the boot space and ground clearance of the Carens.
Besides the Hyundai Alcazar, the Kia Carens will also compete with Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, Toyota Innova Crysta, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo. We expect Kia India to price the Carens between Rs. 13 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
