Kia India will soon launch the new Carens with BS6 phase-2 compliant engines. In addition to that, the Carens will also offer a diesel auto-clutch manual transmission (ACMT) powertrain option, which is already available with the Kia Seltos SUV.

Kia India already offer the diesel ACMT powertrain option with the Seltos SUV and the same powertrain will soon power the Carens as well. It uses an auto-clutch manual transmission (ACMT) that Kia likes to call ‘iMT’ or intelligent manual transmission. The ACMT option will sit between the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission option.

As per the leaked homologation document, Kia will offer the diesel ACMT powertrain option with a new M-drive variant. The M-drive variant is likely to sit below the Premium variant and offer a 7-seater configuration only.

The 1.5L turbo diesel engine of the updated Kia Carens could produce 116PS of power at 4000rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1500rpm and 2750rpm. The same engine also powers the Kia Setlos, Kia Sonet automatic, Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Alcazar. The ACMT transmission is likely to cost Rs. 50,000 more than the corresponding manual variant.
