by Jagdev Kalsi on Tuesday, Jul 21 2020

Kia Sonet, the upcoming Hyundai Venue rival that is set for a global reveal on 7 August 2020, has been partially revealed from its rear in an official video. The sub-4m SUV’s front was previously teased in an image.

The latest video reveals multiple rear design elements, like roof rails, shark fin antenna, rear wiper and tail lamps. The tail lamps, that are connected to each other, bear a close resemblance to those on the concept car that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Since only the top portion of the car has been revealed, it remains to be seen whether the rear bumper is designed like the one on the concept or whether Kia has redesigned it.

The teaser video doesn’t show much of the Sonet’s interior apart from an auto-dimming IRVM and leather-wrapped steering. The Sonet is expected to share a lot of features with the Hyundai Venue, including connected car tech, which Kia likes to call UVO.

The Sonet will be available with multiple powertrains, shared with Venue, and it will feature a clutchless manual transmission (iMT) as well that will debut in the Venue in July 2020. The earlier image that teased the Sonet’s front design included some red inserts in the front grille, hinting at a sportier variant in the mix. It remains to be seen if Kia would continue offering multiple trim options (GT Line & HT Line) on the Sonet, like it does on the Seltos.

In the sub-4m SUV space, the Sonet would rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. In this space, the Tata Nexon XE is the best entry-level car, Brezza VXI is the best car under Rs 8.5 lakh, and if your budget allows a car up to the price of Rs 9 lakh, then Nexon XZ will be the best buy in terms of value-for-money. Watch the video to find out which is the most value-for-money sub-4m SUV under Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
