Leaked: BMW M8 Competition Ahead Of Debut
The range topping M8 Competition from the BMW’s flagship coupe, the 8- series is expected to be revealed in mid- 2019 and go on sale later in the year in international markets. The design of the M8 was first previewed in March at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show with the M8 Gran Coupe concept. However, the variant has been leaked on internet ahead of its official world debut. The images show completely undisguised version of the car sporting the M8 badging.
According to the images, the M8 will come with more aggressive front and rear bumpers, performance wheels, as well as a quad exhaust setup that are similar to the ones found on the M2 and M5 Competition by the automaker. These features also make the indications strong about the spotted car to be the M8 Competition. Other features spotted on the luxurious car include carbon fiber on the roof, side mirror caps, front intake surrounds, side vents, trunk lid spoiler, and rear diffuser along with the massive wheels measuring 20 inches in diameter and shod in 275 / 35- size Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Apart from these, the brake package also appears to contain carbon- ceramic rotors.
The M8 Competition by BMW will come powered by a 4.4- liter twin- turbocharged V- 8, 8- speed automatic, and rear- biased all- wheel drive with driver selectable rear- wheel drive. The same powertrain has been offered earlier in the M5. The engine will be capable of making 600 hp in the standard M8 and possibly up around 620 hp in the M8 Competition.
BMW M had announced that development of the M8 was entering the final stages in November this year. Including the M850i M Performance model on sale in December, compared to the regular 8- Series, the M8 benefits from enhanced body rigidity. The weight distribution and the center of gravity by tweaking the chassis components and their mounting have been enhanced according to the lessons from the M8 race program. According to BMW M, the weight was minimized for the M8 Competition though it is still expected to be somewhere below the 4,000- pound mark.
The M8 will be available in all three bodystyles - the Coupe, Convertible and four -door Gran Coupe with the 8- series Gran Coupe scheduled to debut in 2019. The vehicle has already been spotted testing a number of times at the Nürburgring, alongside the M8 Coupe and Convertible. The M8 in coupe version will make its debut soon, most probably in next January at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit or in March at the 2019 Geneva auto show. Sales will follow in 2019, with the car likely arriving as a 2020 model followed by the M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe variants soon after.
However, BMW has made no announcement regarding an India launch for the 8- series, currently. If launched in the Indian market, the flagship sedan will sit above the current flagship sedan, the 7- series. When launched, the BMW M8 will take against the likes of the Mercedes- AMG S 63 Coupe and Bentley Continental GT. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the upcoming BMW M8 Competition.
