Japanese automaker Toyota is all set to bring the updated Avanza in the market. The updated MPV is yet to make its official debut in the countries it is sold, and according to latest reports, the images of the upcoming Toyota Avanza has been leaked on the internet. Toyota sells the Avanza in multiple ASEAN markets including Indonesia and Malaysia where it is manufactured. The leaked images are for the sportier, Indonesian market Avanza Veloz variant.
According to the leaked images, the 2019 Avanza MPV gets a bolder look at the front, featuring a split headlamp setup, similar to what is seen on the Toyota Alphard luxury MPV. The Alphard by Toyota is much larger and more expensive compared to the Avanza. Other than this, it also gets an all- new grille and sharper and more in- line bumper design with the modern Toyota models. The images also reveal the rear side of the upcoming MPV with minor cosmetic tweaks on the tailgate with new extended tail- lamps and vertical styling cues on the bumper to make it look wider than the outgoing model.
Though the exterior has been revealed in the leaked images, the interior of the Toyota Avanza facelift is still under the cover. In terms of expected updates, the MPV is likely to offer minor updates for the dashboard and seats, as well as a better infotainment system. It is expected to offer features such as buttons and a screen for the air- conditioning system instead of two dials, keyless start, improved materials and an updated head unit on the dashboard.
The powertrain options for the 2019 model include the same, 1.3- litre petrol with 93 hp and 1.5- litre petrol motor producing 105 hp are expected to continue. Both the engines come mated to either a 5- speed manual or a 4- speed automatic transmission options.
Toyota Avanza is produced by Daihatsu and also sold under the same brand as the Xenia in the Indonesian market. The existing Daihatsu model features a redesigned bumper, slimmer faux air outlets, as well as a more rectangular reflector strip on the rear. Been on sale for about seven years in ASEAN markets, the current- gen Avanza have received mild updates more than once by the manufacturer in the markets. Daihatsu supplies the vehicle to Toyota under a consigned production and OEM manufacturing agreement.
The official launch of Toyota Avanza facelift is scheduled to take place in the coming month. The updated Toyota Avanza will hit international dealerships later this year. Introduced in December 2003, the Avanza is a 5- door MPV that takes against the likes of the Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio, among others. Apart from Indonesia and Malaysia, the Avanza is sold in Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Middle East, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Caribbean, Egypt, South Africa and various other African countries. A rebadged version of the car was sold in China under the FAW badge until 2010. Though, Toyota sells the Avanza in several ASEAN markets but the manufacturer has not revealed any plans about bringing the MPV to the Indian market.
