Mahindra will soon launch the XUV700 AX7 Smart variant and it will sit below the top AX7L variant. The XUV700 AX7 Smart will lack some features seen on the AX7L. These features include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), knee airbag, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), electric door handles, telescopic steering, passive keyless entry, wireless charging, hill hold assist, hill descent control, drive modes, electric parking brake, and driver drowsiness detection.

By removing the aforementioned features, Mahindra should be able to price the XUV700 AX7 Smart Rs. 80,000 lower than the top-spec AX7L. The AX7 Smart variant will help Mahindra deal with the shortage of semiconductor microchips, as features like ADAS and ESP use more chips. However, we feel the price advantage doesn’t justify the deletion of the aforementioned features.
Mahindra could convince XUV700 buyers who have booked the AX7L to switch to the AX7 Smart variant to take advantage of a shorter waiting period. Currently, the XUV700 AX7L commands a waiting period of over 12 months! Mahindra could also offer the new variant to new buyers at a later stage.
