In this March 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all SUVs in India. We’ll also share our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all SUVs for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
SUV Segment March 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- Among the SUVs, the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon were the top 2 performers in February, whereas in March, Brezza took over the top spot and replaced Nexon with about 16,000 units dispatched, which translates to a YoY gain of over 30% for Brezza.
- Amongst the mass-market cars in the category, Hector and Hector Plus pair was the best gainer in YoY comparison in March with 103.32% gains.
- 6 SUVs made it into the 5-figure club in March - Brezza, Nexon, Creta, Punch, Grand Vitara and Venue.
- Among the notable top losers were Jeep Compass, Renault Kiger and MG Astor with 69%, 37% and 32% YoY drop in sales respectively.
- Honda WR-V, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Nissan Kicks and Mahindra Alturas G4 were discontinued over the past year.

SUV Segment March 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- The Hector pair was the top gaining mass market SUV with just over 60% MoM rise in March comparison analysis
- Magnite was the second top MoM gainer in March 2023 MoM analysis, with an improvement of 49.27% over its February sales figures
- Amongst the mass-market losers, Seltos was the top loser with 18% MoM decline, followed by Kiger with 13% decline in MoM numbers in March comparison
