Bharat NCAP has extended the Mahindra XUV 3XO’s 5-star safety rating to its factory-fitted CNG variants, sold as the XUV 3XO ZNG. The CNG version earned 5 stars in both categories, scoring 29.36 out of 32.00 for adult occupant protection and 45.00 out of 49.00 for child occupant protection.

How Bharat NCAP Tested The XUV 3XO CNG
Bharat NCAP ran a frontal offset crash test on the AX5 CNG. It carried over the 2024 side-impact and pole-impact results because the CNG version shares its body structure and safety systems with the petrol and diesel versions. The adult protection score matches the original result from November 2024.
The XUV 3XO had already scored 24.00 out of 24.00 in the child crash tests. It gained the extra 2 points in a separate assessment of the markings that help parents fit a child seat safely. Bharat NCAP checks things like whether the car clearly shows where the seat clips in and warns against fitting a rear-facing child seat in front of an active airbag.
The revised score also applies to the petrol and diesel variants covered by the rating, starting with units made after January 2025, beginning with vehicle identification number (VIN) MA1NS2NVPS2B98575. Owners can find the VIN on a plate beneath the driver’s seat, under a flap in the carpet.
The rating covers the MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5 and RevX A, the 4 CNG variants Mahindra currently sell. Bharat NCAP also lists the MX1 and MX2 CNG under the same rating.
All 4 variants on sale get 6 airbags, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child-seat mounts on the outer rear seats as standard. The SUV automatically switches to petrol if its CNG system detects a gas leak.
The Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza are the XUV 3XO ZNG’s closest CNG rivals. The table also includes other B2-segment SUVs with factory-fitted CNG or manufacturer-authorised kits, plus 2 smaller B1-segment alternatives, the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter:
The Tata Nexon and the Maruti Arena Brezza have scored 5-stars in B-NCAP’s crash tests, but the ratings do not apply to their CNG variants.
