Maruti Suzuki Swift Scores 1-Star Rating In Latest Global NCAP Crash Test | V3Cars

Global NCAP recently revised their testing protocols and the Swift scored a mere 1-star safety rating in the latest crash test. The Swift hatchback only scored a 1-star rating in child occupant safety and its body shell was found unstable.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Adult Occupant Safety

Maruti Suzuki Swift scored a 1-star rating in adult occupant safety, securing 19.19 points out of 34 points. It offered good protection to the driver and front co-passenger’s head and neck. However, the protection offered to the driver’s chest was weak and adequate for the front co-passenger. The latest crash test found that the driver’s knees and co-passenger’s right knee are prone to receive impact from dangerous structures in a crash. In the side impact test, the Swift offered good protection to the driver's head, pelvis and abdomen whereas chest protection was rated poor.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Child Occupant Safety

The Swift scored a 1-star rating in child occupant safety, scoring 16.68 points out of 49 points. The latest crash test found that the Swift offered good protection to the head and marginal protection to the chest of a 3-year-old sitting on a child seat. For the 18-month child seat test, the Swift offered poor protection to the head and chest of the test dummy.

The Swift that was tested by GNCAP featured dual airbags, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), seatbelt reminders, rear parking sensors and seatbelt pretensioner with load limiter for the driver and front co-passenger. Higher variants of the Swift also offer electronic stability control (ESC) and hill-hold control.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Old Vs New Crash Test

Global NCAP tested the current-gen Swift in 2018 using the older testing protocols. In 2018, the Swift scored a 2-stars crash rating, securing 7.08 points out of 17 points. It scored a 2-star rating in child occupant safety as well, securing 16.23 points out of 49 points. Compared to the older test, the Swift lost 1 star in both adult- and child-occupant safety tests. The new test also included a side impact test that was not part of the 2018 crash test protocol.
