Toyota Hyryder Hybrid Powertrain To Be Tuned By Maruti Suzuki | V3Cars

Ahead of the global unveil of the Toyota Hyryder SUV, we have learnt that while Toyota will bring their advanced hybrid powertrain, Maruti Suzuki will tune it to suit our driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki are likely to use their 1.5L normal petrol engine with a strong hybrid setup.

As per our sources, Maruti Suzuki will calibrate the hybrid powertrain for both the Hyryder and new-gen Vitara for our driving conditions. While the hybrid powertrain in the global-spec Yaris Cross makes use of a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine, we expect the India-bound Hyryder to borrow the 1.5L 4-cylinder normal petrol engine from Maruti Suzuki.

Toyota India will reveal the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder on July 1, with launch expected to take place in the following weeks. Maruti Suzuki will also launch their own version of the Hyryder SUV. While the Maruti will have a different design, it will retain the same powertrain and equipment list as the Toyota SUV.

The Toyota Hyryder will become the first C-segment SUV in India to offer a strong hybrid setup. We expect the Hyryder hybrid SUV to offer segment-leading fuel efficiency and give a tough competition to diesel-powered rivals as well. As we are expecting a high degree of localisation, Toyota are likely to price the Hyryder compact SUV competitively.
