After announcing a hype-worthy pricing for the Windsor EV (and creating a lot of confusion in the process) MG have recently introduced the battery subscription option with the Comet EV and ZS EV as well. With this BaaS (Battery as a Service) model, the Comet EV starts at just Rs. 4.99 lakh while the ZS EV starts at Rs. 13.99 lakh. The BaaS option brings the price of the Comet EV down by Rs. 2.0 lakh. Similarly, for the ZS EV with BaaS, the initial purchase prices are down by Rs. 5.0 lakh.

With the battery subscription, the Comet EV will carry a per kilometre rental cost of Rs. 2.50. For the Windsor EV, we already know that it carries a subscription cost of Rs. 3.50 per kilometre. For the ZS EV, the battery usage subscription cost is Rs. 4.50/km.
With this pricing information, we can easily compute the per kWh battery cost for each car. With the Comet, MG are asking us to pay Rs. 11,561 per kWh of battery. The Windsor’s battery cost is the lowest at just Rs. 9,237 per kWh. The ZS EV’s per kWh battery cost again jumps a little to Rs. 9,920.

However, this setup completes MG’s mass market EV product portfolio for the foreseeable future with a spread out product lineup. Kindly refer the following table to see the big picture:
With this product portfolio, MG have an EV for everyone based on their needs. For buyers who want a 200km range, there’s the Comet. For 300km range, there’s the Windsor. And finally, for the buyers who want a 400km range requirement, there’s the ZS EV.
In terms of per KM rental costs, the Comet, Windsor and ZS EV stand at Rs. 2.50, Rs. 3.50 and Rs. 4.50 per kilometre. Again, nicely spaced out. The BaaS pricing of the cars also respects the major psychological barriers. The Comet EV is now under Rs. 5.0 lakh. The Windsor EV costs under Rs. 10.0 lakh and the ZS is well under Rs. 15.0 lakh.
