MG (Morris Garages) Motor India has commenced the production of Hector from its state-of-the-art facility at Halol in Gujarat, after testing the vehicle for one million kilometres in diverse road and climatic conditions, pan India. To suit the Indian requirement, the vehicle has undergone more than 300+ changes.
The Hector SUV would be shipped to its network of 65 showrooms in 50 cities- posts its’ global debut on 15th May 5, 2019. Pre-ordering would start from June. The MG Hector is equipped with cutting-edge technology, designed for delivering best-in-class features and performance. The next-gen iSMART technology would be a safe, connected, and fun experience vehicle for customers as this would be India’s first internet car having a 10.4-inch touchscreen and Over the Air (OTA) technology. This would allow customers to update software, themes, features, and infotainment content, whenever updates are available.
The carmaker’s technologically advanced plant in Gujarat has deployed advanced robotic roller hemming, robotic spot welding, and robotic brazing facilities for superior weld quality and dimensional consistency. The paint shop uses the robotic application at all stages of coating for superior paint finish quality and color coordination. The new assembly line operates with the help of advanced Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) for various assembly processes. For the first time in the automobile industry, touchscreen pads are available at each assembly work station. This would enable employees to communicate, connect and alert the system centrally to avoid errors by following the “first time right to build” philosophy.
MG India has invested INR 2,200 crores in its Gujarat manufacturing plant for rolling out the MG Hector. It has set up a new assembly line, press shop, body shop, parts distribution center, testing track and a state-of-the-art training facility in the plant, within 18 months. The Halol plant has a production capacity of 80,000 units per annum and can increase its capacity based on demand. The plant operates by following the world-class manufacturing standards following production parameters, vehicles undergoing innumerable stringent quality tests. Due to the car maker’s commitment to the Indian market, the carmaker has set up a captive vendor park at its plant.
