Compared to the outgoing City, the new City petrol makes 2PS more power and the torque arrives 300rpm sooner. The diesel engine retains its power and torque output without any change. This minor power increase gives the City petrol a psychological advantage over the Hyundai Verna turbo as it now makes 1PS more power. However, the petrol engine of the Verna is turbocharged and therefore it will offer better low RPM drivability in the City.
After the introduction of the Amaze diesel with CVT automatic, there were rumours that the Honda City will also get the CVT automatic transmission with the diesel engine. At least for now, those rumours appear to have not materialized as CVT automatic is only available with the petrol engine.
In some markets, the City is also available with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. If the Hyundai Verna turbo, Rapid and Vento petrol gain any traction, then we may see that smaller turbo petrol engine make its way to India as well.
