It is already known that Nissan is preparing to launch the Kicks compact SUV in the car market of India. Nissan India is trying to boost its sales and increase its footprint in the country’s vast auto market and its Kicks is going to be a contender for the likes of the Hyundai Creta. The Nissan Kicks will have a premium positioning with great premium features and an up-market interior. The Kicks has already been spied testing on the Indian roads, and it has recently been caught again by the spying shutterbugs. The Nissan Kicks’ test prototype model has been recently spotted on the roads of Tamil Nadu soon after it was spied for the first time earlier in August.
While the fully camouflaged Kicks prototype does not offer more info on the exterior design of the India-spec model than that of the earlier spotted test mule, it does offer a little speak-peek at the cabin of the upcoming SUV model.
It has already been reported that the Indian-spec Nissan Kicks is going to slightly different as compared against its international ounterpart owing to different platforms and some expected India specific tweaks. The India-spec Kicks will also be larger than the global model as it is based on the same B0 platform as that of the Nissan Terrano, Renault Captur and Renault Duster. Thus, the Indian Kicks model will be measuring around 4.3 meters. The India-spec Kicks is expected to look very similar to its global counterpart which is based on Nissan’s latest design philosophy and comes with an aggressively style front fascia featuring the V-Motion grille and wrap around headlights, while its stylish wrap around taillights and floating D-pillar are the other design highlights of the aggressively styled contemporary compact SUV.
On the inside, the Nissan Kicks prototype has previewed the 7 inch floating type touchscreen display for the infotainment unit which is similar to what the Brazilian model gets. Thus, the India-spec Kicks’ dashboard will feature an infotainment touchscreen display mounted on the centre console instead of the integrated display that the other global models of the SUV gets. The other interior features that have been noticed in the spied Kicks prototype include a sporty three-spoke flat bottom multifunction steering wheel along with contrasting silver inserts. Nissan is expected to endow the India-spec Kicks with great premium features similar to the international model, although there might be few differences. The Japanese automaker has already said that it will boast of several class-first features.
Under the hood, the upcoming new Nissan Kicks is expected to get the same 1.5 litre diesel and petrol motors that power the Nissan Terrano and the Renault Captur. The 1.5L oil burner offers 110 bhp of power and 245 Nm of torque and gets paired with a 5 speed manual transmission. The 1.5L petrol mill on the other hand generates 105 bhp and 142 Nm and gets a 6 speed manual or an automatic transmission options.
The Nissan Kicks is expected to come with a price range of around Rs. 10 lakhs and would launch in India in January 2019. The Kicks will fight with the likes of the segment-ruler Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Captur and the upcoming Tata Harrier among others in the fast growing Indian compact SUV market.
