Japanese auto major Nissan has launched its popular Qashqai SUV in the car market of UK at £31,327. The Nissan Qashqai boasts of the company’s ProPilot system which offers great semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The Japanese SUV has the ability to steer, apply brakes and more, autonomously. This makes the Nissan Qashqai SUV a really cool SUV to drive around. Being highly popular in other international car markets, the Nissan Qashqai SUV has been recently launched in UK to win over the modern British SUV buyers.
According to reports, the Nissan Qashqai SUV empowered with Nissan ProPilot system can steer, accelerate and even apply brakes on its own by utilizing and analyzing the data captured by a camera and radar which are placed on the SUV’s front grille. These kinds of high-end autonomous driving abilities used to be found only on top-end Mercedes and BMW models until now. Nissan has newly introduced its latest technology package in this price range.
As per the Japanese automaker, the ProPilot system is not meant to take over the driver's role entirely, and is only meant to aid the driver. Meaning this technology is a suit of driver assist systems that work together as semi-autonomous system. As per the company, the ProPilot technology is aimed at aiding drivers to enjoy a less stressful driving experience and offer more confidence to the drivers to take on the various driving and road conditions.
As per Nissan, the drivers must keep their hands on the steering wheel of the Qashqai, and if they do take their hands off the steering for more than ten seconds, the vehicle will give visual and audio warning alarms. If these system generated alerts are not paid heed to by the driver, or the drivers fails to respond to these alarms, then the vehicle will automatically come to a full halt within 30 seconds.
A Nissan spokesperson while commenting on the company’s ProPilot system said that the ProPilot enhances the driver’s control over the vehicle by aiding with steering, acceleration as well as braking. He further added by saying that this technology decreases the stress and fatigue related to driving and more importantly enhances safety level, which in turn improves the overall confidence of the driver.
The spokesperson also said that while the Nissan ProPilot system is the company’s first step forward in the journey towards full autonomous driving technology, this technology on the Qashqai SUV works as a 'hands on, eyes on' system. This means that the driver remains in full control of the vehicle and has to be fully responsible for the driving part. However, the system aids the driver in all aspects and improves the overall driving and safe experience. Nissan also said that the ProPilot technology is also very handy during heavy traffic stricken driving conditions.
Thus, while the Nissan Qashqai SUV is not an autonomous SUV, it sure offers you a taste of cutting-edge technology and how intelligent autonomous car technology can change the entire drive quality.
