    Renault to boost sales with a slew of launches in the Indian compact car segment

    French automaker Renault is planning big for the Indian car market in order to boost sales and grab a sustainable market share. Renault has just launched its highly awaited Captur premium crossover in India on 6th of November, 2017. With the launch of the Renault Captur, the French car maker has increased its Indian portfolio to four models from a measly three model lineup. Recently, Renault India had revealed that it has discontinued four models in India due to poor market performance. Renault India’s current model lineup comprises of the Kwid entry-level hatchback, the Lodgy MPV, the Duster compact SUV and the newly launched Cuptur premium compact SUV.  

    Renault has revealed that the company is contemplating to launch multiple models in the compact car segment of India. The French car maker is looking to really boost its sales volumes and growth volumes, which are currently faltering with the slowing of demands for the massively successful Renault Kwid hatch.

    While speaking on this development, the Managing Director of Renault India operations, Mr. Sumit Sawhney said that with the launch of the new Renault Captur SUV, the company hopes to tap further into the Indian SUV market.

    He added by saying that the Kwid has an average monthly sells of around 8,000 units. However, the mini hatchback segment of the country has not been growing substantially. The company needs to have representative in those car segments of India which are growing.


    Sawhney further added by saying that the company is planning to launch one new vehicle model in India every year. The sub-4 metre compact car segment accounts for as much as 70 percent of the domestic car market of India. Thus, Renault really requires to, and will have more offerings in the compact car category in the country.


    We all know that the sub-4 meter small car market is an all-time favourite in India, and even a lot of SUVs are joining this category and they are immensely popular as well. However, currently Renault does not offer a sub-4 metre SUV models in India. Neither the Duster nor the Captur is a sub-4 metre SUV, and both are compact SUV models with lengths of over 4 metres. In fact, both these SUVs in India are based on the same platform and have similar dimensions.



    However, the Renault Captur is expected to garner good sales for the company, as compact SUVs are also highly popular in the car market of India. Moreover, even premium SUVs are getting increasingly popular in our market. The Captur is currently the flagship model of Renault India and comes with a price range of Rs. 9.9 lakhs to Rs. 13.88 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).


    The Renault Captur is a highly contemporary and stylish premium SUV/crossover model which boasts of a curvaceous design language, an array of impressive premium features and a plethora of attractive customizations options. The Renault Captur rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500 in India.
