Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed a sportier version of the Yaris Ativ TRD at the ongoing 2018 Bangkok Motor Show. The Toyota Yaris TRD is developed by Toyota Racing Development and gets a number of sporty body parts for a more dynamic styling. The Indian launch of the car is expected next month under the badge of Toyota Yaris. Currently, in India, Toyota sells TRD sportive edition of its most-selling full-grown SUV Fortuner in India and is likely to bring the TRD Variant to the Indian market with different specifications.
Now talking about the newly unveiled Yaris Ativ TRD, the car gets a number of sporty body parts for a more dynamic styling. At the front, the Toyota Yaris TRD variant gets underbody spoilers with red accents and thicker fog lamps that surrounds the front while at the rear end, the car gets black bumper valance and black trunk lid spoiler. However, the car gets the same alloy wheels as on the standard Yaris Ativ model and sans the TRD badge but the side profile provides the car a more aggressive and sporty stance. Also, the Yaris TRD sports dual-tone side skirts, the front spoiler and rear faux diffuser finished in red. Red highlights are also visible on the outside rear-view mirrors while the boot spoiler is finished in black.
However, the main changes in terms of features exist at the interior of the newly revealed variant in the form of first features such as gesture control for the touchscreen infotainment system, a tyre pressure-monitoring system, 60:40 rear seat split, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat, a roof-mounted rear air-con with ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat and front parking sensors at the top-spec variants of the car.
Mechanically, the Toyota Yaris Ativ TRD powered by a 108 hp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine and will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-step CVT automatic. No diesel engine is expected though a hybrid model is on the cards for a possible future launch. The same engine specifications are found at the India-bound model that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo last month.
Earlier, Toyota had introduced TRD Sportivo versions of the Etios Liva hatchback, Etios sedan and the Fortuner SUV in India hence it is possible that the carmaker will bring the body kit for its Yaris after the standard model arrives. The automaker has already begun accepting the advanced bookings for the Yaris sedan in India. While the car is all set to take against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Yaris for India will be heavily localized and is expected to be launched at a competitive pricing bracket. However, according to the reports on the internet, Toyota will sell limited units of the Toyota Yaris Ativ TRD with the same specs as unveiled at Bangkok Motor Show 2018.
