The image of the next generation Volvo S60 has been doing rounds on the internet for past few days. The sedan has been spied completely undisguised in Sweden recently and looks like following the design path of the elder sibling S90 in a squeezed manner. However, this is not the first time that the upcoming Volvo S60 has been spied. Earlier this week, a camouflaged picture of the next-gen Volvo S60 sedan was posted while testing in Norway.
Talking about the design, the spied upcoming Volvo S60 gets the design elements from its elder sibling S90, however, after looking at it closely it also resembles the new XC20 or XC40 electric vehicle as well while the interiors seems to be inspired from the recently unveiled V60 by the automaker. The sedan will be based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). The same platform underpins the 90 series and the 60 series by the Swedish manufacturer. What is visible in terms of features from the spied image is that the next-gen Volvo S60 gets the C-shaped LED taillights, wheel cap gets gloss black color with chrome treatment on the exhaust tip and windows trim. Although, the image doesn’t show the front fascia of the car, the earlier spied camouflaged image did give an idea about what it could be. According to that the front fascia and the Thor's Hammer-styled LED DRLs remains the same as the outgoing model. Inside, it is said to offer new soft touch materials and the typical Volvo touchscreen infotainment system. Other feature details are still under the cover as there is no information or image about the interior of the upcoming sedan.
Mechanically, the Volvo S60 is expected to come powered by the 2.0-litre petrol engine capable of producing 156 bhp of max power, while the diesel motor is expected to churn out 240 bhp of power. According to the speculations going on in the market, the sedan might also get a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid variant at a later stage and also looking at offerings other products by Volvo in the market we can definitely expect a Cross Country version of the sedan as well.
Though, the launch details are not out yet but reports suggest that the next-gen Volvo S60 will be launched internationally by the end of this year and will come to India probably in early 2019. It is expected to be launched first as a CBU in the country and later if Volvo sees sufficient demand it will be converted in a CKD to assemble it locally. The existing S60 in the country is priced between Rs 32.63 (ex-showroom, India) Lakh – Rs 54.96 Lakh (ex-showroom, India) and is available in six variants namely D4 Kinetic, D4 Momentum, D4 R-Design, D5 Inscription, T6 and Polestar that was launched in April 2017. When launched in India, the 2019 Volvo S60 will continue to take against the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 and the Audi S5. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the 2019 Volvo S60.
