Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing well to introduce the much awaited S201 compact SUV in the Indian market in the near future. Sharing its underpinnings, body panels and other mechanical bits with the slightly larger SsangYong Tivoli SUV, the upcoming S201 interiors have been spied recently. Though the vehicle has been spotted testing a number of times, this is the first time that the images of the interiors of the S201 have been surfaced on the internet.
According to the spied images, the Mahindra S201 SUV will get a dashboard that is very similar to the Tivoli’s with some changes. A dual-tone paint scheme, with the bottom- half in beige and the top- half in black, a subtle faux- aluminium panel sitting between the top and the bottom of the dashboard, dividing it into two halves, the steering wheel same as the Tivoli’s, with mounted controls for audio and Bluetooth, instrument cluster with two large dials and a decently sized multi- info display at the centre are the overall dashboard changes seen in the spied images.
Other than these, the interior will sport the fonts of the dials are similar to that of the Tivoli but the console lacks silver finish. A 7.0- inch touchscreen sits right at the centre and is expected to include features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and will also function as the display for the reverse camera. Additionally, the manufacturer is also expected to offer satnav on the S201 SUV. The images also show two vertical HVAC vents positioned on either side of the infotainment screen. Also, the centre console features a piano- black- finished layout consisting of multiple buttons for the air con and defogger. A segment- first feature in the form of dual-zone climate control will also be on offer with the upcoming Mahindra SUV as well as dual USB ports, along with an AUX input jack and a 12V socket.
Though based on the Tivoli, the S201 will not offer any off- road gear as such but is likely to feature similar seats and door pads. In terms of safety features, Mahindra & Mahindra will be offering seven airbags on at least the top- spec variant of this new compact SUV. Other feature details are expected to come out in the future.
Mechanically, the 2019 Mahindra S201 SUV will come with a 1.5- litre diesel mated to a six- speed manual gearbox and a 1.2- litre three- cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Reports suggest that this new model could be christened Mahindra XUV300 so that the company could cash in on the brand’s great recall value. The automaker will announce the official moniker for the S201 on 19th December and is likely to launch the S201 compact SUV along with the U321 MPV in the coming months. When launched, the Mahindra S201 will take against the likes of the Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon in the segment. Mahindra is also planning to launch an S201- based EV soon after launching the all-electric KUV100. Expect the all- electric S201 to arrive sometime in 2020.
