The 45X is an upcoming premium hatchback from Tata. The hatch is already making headlines since the concept was revealed by the automaker at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year. This time the interior of the upcoming Tata 45X has been spied while the manufacturer was testing the car in the country. The leaked images show how the car is supposed to look from inside.
According to the images, the interior of the upcoming Tata 45X will get a large free-standing touchscreen atop the centre console based on the Tata Motors’ Impact Design 2.0 design philosophy, though it doesn’t reveal the dashboard of the car. Also, the automaker had announced ‘segment leading’ human-machine interface screens and the images do show a larger-than-average centre touchscreen. Tata Motors also stated that “every function would be in arm’s reach” and keeping their word, the touchscreen has been positioned higher. However, the rivals including the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz, all sport 7.0-inch touchscreens.
In terms of interior designing, the basic design of the dash looks more conventional than Tata Motors’ renderings of the Concept 45X’s radical dashboard. The images also show analogue dials as well as a traditional T-shaped centre console with air con vents under the centre screen. Though, the cabin currently supports all-black theme, it is expected to follow a different color combination on a later stage, as the details revealed by the Indian auto giant state that cars based on Impact Design 2.0 will use varied color combinations and high-quality materials to “enhance the perception of tactile quality.” Apart from these, the manufacturer will also offer room for personalization with multiple accessory options, along with several in-cabin storage spaces with the 45X premium hatchback.
However, the exterior of the upcoming hatchback has not been revealed yet, we can expect it to offer class-leading wheel sizes, generous wheel arches and clean surfacing among others as that will be common to cars designed to Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 language. Mechanically, the hatch is likely to get more powerful versions of the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The same engines currently empower the Tata Nexon. The transmission duties are expected to be performed by a six-speed manual as well as a twin-clutch gearbox that is currently under development.
Though, Tata Motors has not revealed any tentative date of reveal, the production version of the 45X hatchback is expected to launch sometime in the second-half of 2019. When launched, the Tata 45X will take against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz among others in the segment. Also, recently the automaker introduced Apple CarPlay functionality to the infotainment system of Nexon. Before this, the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the higher variants of the Nexon (XZ and XZ+) was only available with Android Auto connectivity since Tata launched Nexon in September last year. The new buyers of the Nexon will get Apple CarPlay functionality pre-installed in their vehicles, while the existing owners won’t get this for now. The Tata Nexon also received the four-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test.
