Tata Altroz XM+ Variant Launched With Petrol Engine
Tata Motors has launched a new XM+ variant of the Altroz. Priced at Rs 6.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) with the petrol engine, it is the sixth variant in the Altroz lineup after the XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ(O).
The Altroz XM+, as the name suggests, is based on the mid-spec XM variant but gets some additional features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering-mounted controls and remote central locking. It also gets bigger 16-inch wheels with covers, and not the 14-inch wheels found on the XM variant. For these added features, the XM+ variant attracts a premium of Rs 30,000 over the XM variant, which is almost justified.
Other features on the XM+ variant are identical to the XM variant. It gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, power windows, multiple driving modes, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, adjustable front headrests, manual AC and tilt-adjustable steering.
The XM+ variant sits below the XT variant in the Altroz’ lineup. Compared to the XT, it misses out features like auto AC, parking camera, front fog lamps, mood lighting and push-button start/stop. For these additional features, the XT variant is priced at a premium of Rs 39,000 over the XM+ variant.
For now, Tata is offering the Altroz XM+ with a petrol engine only. It gets a 1.2-litre engine making 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Altroz XM+ diesel will go on sale in December 2020. Altroz diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre engine making 90PS and 200Nm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Tata does not offer the option of an automatic transmission yet with any of its engines.
Along with the introduction of a new variant, Tata is also expected to launch the Altroz Turbo soon. It will be powered by a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre petrol engine making 110PS of power. It will be offered in four variants XT, XT(O), XZ and XZ(O). Prices of the Altroz Turbo are expected to range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. It is likely to attract a premium around Rs 1 lakh over the standard Altroz petrol, which retails from Rs 5.44 lakh to Rs 9.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Altroz competes with the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and the recently launched 2020 Hyundai i20.
