Tata Motors has plans to launch an electric version of the Nexon compact SUV in India. The carmaker is expected to introduce it in the market in January 2020. The Nexon EV will be launched before electric version of the Altroz, which is expected to be launched in mid-2020.
The revelation comes from the company’s chairman Chandrasekaran, who shared the company’s future plans to shareholders at the carmaker’s 74th annual meeting. Apart from the Nexon, there are three more electric cars from Tata slated to launch in the next 18 months (by 2021).
The three other electric cars apart from Nexon EV will be the electric version of the upcoming Altroz premium hatchback, an upgrade of the existing Tigor EV with longer range and a new unnamed electric car.
Little is known about the Nexon electric, but the car was spied recently inside what looked like Tata Motors facility. The electric Nexon’s specifications are not out yet, but we expect it to get a range of around 200km, if not more.
Tata is expected to price the Nexon EV below the Rs 15 lakh mark. The Mahindra XUV300’s electric version will give company to the Nexon electric when it (XUV300 EV) is launched in India.
