Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor On The Cards

After the shocking announcement of the Toyota Rumion, which is nothing but a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Japanese carmaker might just be gearing up to launch the Urban Cruiser Taisor. We expect the Urban Cruiser Taisor to share its powertrain and underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Hence, it will sit below the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and fill the void created by the now-discontinued Toyota Urban Cruiser.

It is interesting to note that if the Urban Cruiser Taisor turns out to be the rebadged Fronx, it will be the first Toyota in India to offer a turbocharged petrol engine. Currently, the entire Toyota portfolio either offers normal petrol engines or strong hybrid powertrains. And then there are diesel engines in products like the Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux.

Like in the past, the Urban Cruiser Taisor is only likely to carry a couple of cosmetic changes to visually differentiate it over its Suzuki cousin. It could include a larger chrome grille at the front with the Toyoto logo along with a sportier front bumper. Around the side, we can expect a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. Likewise, the rear profile could also offer redesigned LED tail lights and tweaked bumper design.

Speaking of the powertrain details, the Urban Cruiser Taisor is likely to carry the same 1.2L normal petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. In the Fronx, the 1.2L petrol engine produces 90PS of power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4400rpm. The 1.0L turbo petrol engine offers 100PS of power at 5500rpm and 148Nm of torque between 2000rpm and 4500rpm. Both the 1.2L and 1.0L turbo petrol engines come with a 5-speed manual along with AMT and TC automatic options, respectively.

Given that the market launch of the Toyota Rumion is likely to take place in the coming weeks, the Urban Cruiser Taisor could hit showrooms towards the end of 2023. We can expect Toyota to officially announce the Urban Cruiser Taisor around September and launch it in October 2023. It will rival other B2-SUVs like the Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
