Toyota Issue Recall For Urban Cruiser Hyryder Over Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy | V3Cars

Toyota have issued an official recall for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder over a potential inaccuracy in the fuel level indicator. A total of 11,529 units have been identified as affected, specifically those equipped with the analogue instrument cluster.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Recalled Over Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy

This recall comes shortly after Maruti Suzuki announced a recall for the Grand Vitara. Given that both SUVs share the same platform and mechanical components, this recall was expected.

Details Of The Latest Hyryder Recall

According to Toyota, the recall applies to Hyryder units manufactured between December 9, 2024 and April 29, 2025. Only variants using the 1.5L petrol mild-hybrid engine with an analogue instrument cluster are affected. These include the base E and S variant of the SUV.

  • 1.5L petrol-mild hybrid: E and S

Toyota have stated that owners of these variants could experience:

  • Incorrect fuel level readings
  • Low-fuel warning not triggering at the right time
  • Possible inconvenience during long journeys
  • Higher risk of the vehicle running out of fuel unexpectedly

Much like the Grand Vitara’s case, this issue is not related to engine performance or fuel delivery, but rather the instrument cluster’s internal calibration, which may not read the signal from the tank sensor accurately.

Why This Recall Matters

While the defect does not pose an immediate safety risk, it does affect everyday usability,  especially for owners who frequently drive long distances or rely on the last 5 to 10 litres of tank range.

In the worst-case scenario, a driver may:

  • Miscalculate refuelling intervals
  • Run out of fuel unexpectedly
  • Get stranded in unfamiliar or remote locations

Toyota’s Response and What Owners Should Do

Toyota will contact owners whose vehicles fall within the affected VIN range. The service centres will carry out:

  • A full inspection of the fuel gauge assembly
  • Calibration of the instrument cluster
  • Replacement of faulty parts (if required)

All actions will be done free of cost, as per Toyota’s standard recall policy.

You don’t have to wait for Toyota to call you. Owners can independently verify their vehicle status by:

  • Visiting Toyota’s official recall portal
  • Entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Contacting their nearest authorised Toyota dealership

Until the inspection is completed, owners are advised to refuel earlier than usual and avoid pushing the tank close to empty.
