Toyota has confirmed that it will launch the Urban Cruiser SUV on 23 September 2020. Bookings for the sub-4m SUV are already underway for a token amount of Rs 11,000. In order to sweeten the deal for the early movers, Toyota had earlier announced that it will offer a free 2-year maintenance package to the customers who have booked the SUV before it goes on sale.
The annual maintenance package (AMC) will have a validity of 2 years/20,000 km, whichever is earlier. It will be offered along with the standard warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 km. Toyota is yet to reveal what services will be covered in the AMC, but we believe it will include first two scheduled services. More details about the plan are expected to be revealed when the SUV is launched later in September.
Now let’s take a look at what we know about the sub-4m SUV so far. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is essentially a rebadged and slightly restyled version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which is already on sale in the country. It will be available in three variants: Mid, High and Premium, and will be equipped with features such as auto LED headlamps, auto AC, LED DRLs, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start/stop, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, LED fog lamps and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser will get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 105PS and 138Nm, mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Like the Vitara Brezza, the Urban Cruise will also come with a mild-hybrid system with the automatic transmission.
Prices are expected to range from Rs 8.25 lakh to Rs 10.99 lakh. The Urban Cruiser will take on the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the Kia Sonet.
