Toyota has teased its upcoming sub-4m SUV -- Urban Cruiser. It will be a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza-based car with some updates to its exterior design. Toyota is yet to announce its launch date, but we expect it to hit the market by September-end.
Like the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will be a petrol-only product. It will be powered by the same 1.5-litre engine that’s on offer on the Brezza. This engine produces 105PS of maximum power and 138Nm of peak torque. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission on the Brezza, and we expect the same powertrain to be on offer on the Urban Cruiser as well. Maruti Suzuki offers this engine with the mild-hybrid tech with just the automatic transmission, but on the Urban Cruiser, Toyota might offer the mild-hybrid setup on the manual version too.
Expect the Urban Cruiser to share its equipment list with the Brezza. So features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED headlamps and fog lamps, automatic headlamps and wipers, leather-wrapped steering and auto-dimming IRVM should be on offer.
While Brezza is available in 4 variants (LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+), the Urban Cruiser is likely to be available in 2 variants only. We expect Toyota to offer a 3-year/1 lakh-km warranty with the Urban Cruiser; Brezza comes with a 2-year/40,000-km standard warranty. Apart from the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will go up against Hyundai Venue, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
