    Upcoming New Cars in India | New Upcoming Cars in 2021 Under Rs 10 Lakh

    2021 hasn’t yet started, and we already have more than a handful of cars lined up to launch in 2021. Here are the 11 sub-Rs 10 lakh cars that will be launched in 2021.

    Maruti Alto

    Maruti Alto

    Expected Price: Rs 3.2 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh 

    Expected Launch: 2021

    Maruti has been working on the next-gen Alto for a while now and it is expected to go on sale in 2021. From what we have seen in the spy shots, the new Alto looks bigger than before as it features a tallboy design. It is also expected to be based on the new Heartect platform which underpins other new Maruti cars like the WagonR, Ignis and the Swift. Under the hood, it is expected to be powered by the same 0.8L petrol engine that powers the current model. It makes 48PS and 69Nm, and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.  

    Maruti Celerio

    Expected Price: Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh

    Expected Launch: Q1 2021

    Along with the Alto, Maruti is also expected to launch the second-gen Celerio in the first quarter of 2021. It is expected to feature an all-new design along with new underpinnings. It is also expected to be better equipped than before with features including a touchscreen infotainment system. Under the hood, it is expected to carry forward the same 1.0-litre petrol engine as before, making 68PS and 90Nm mated to a 5-speed MT and AMT. It remains to be seen if Maruti Suzuki introduces the bigger 1.2-litre engine on the Celerio or not. It makes 83PS and 113Nm mated to a 5-speed MT and AMT. 

    Renault Kiger

    Expected Price: Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh

    Expected Launch: Early 2021

    Renault recently unveiled the Kiger concept giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming Kiger SUV. Renault says the production-spec model will retain 80 per cent of the concept’s design elements. The Kiger will be underpinned by the CMF-A platform, the same that underpins the Triber and the Nissan Magnite. Under the hood, the Kiger will get a 1.0-naturally aspirated engine making 72PS and 96Nm mated to a 5-speed MT. It will also get a turbocharged 1.0-litre engine making 100PS and 160Nm. On the features front, it is expected to get dual front airbags, electronic stability control, hill launch assist, traction control, LED headlamps, digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Kiger will compete with the likes of the Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Honda WR-V, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Toyota Urban Cruiser.

    Expected Price: Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half of 2021

    Tata showcased the HBX concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. It previewed a mini SUV from Tata that will sit below the Nexon in its SUV lineup. While the HBX was showcased in its concept form, it did give us a fair bit of idea of how the final product will look like, as Tata claims the concept is very close to production. Under the hood, the HBX is expected to be powered by a petrol engine only. It is likely to get Tiago’s 1.2-litre engine making 83PS/113Nm mated to a 5-speed MT and an AMT. Features on offer should include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch display and auto AC. Prices of the HBX are expected to start around Rs 5 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Ignis and Nissan Magnite.

    Suzuki Jimny

    Expected Price: Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half 2021

    Maruti Suzuki showcased the Jimny SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. While the carmaker currently has no plans of bringing the 3-door Jimny in India, Maruti is said to be working on the 5-door version of the SUV. Under the hood, the Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 105PS of power and 138Nm mated to 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT. It also gets a 4WD system with a low range gearbox. Features on offer include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD,  rear parking sensors, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers,  auto AC and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Maruti is expected to launch the 5-door Jimny in 2021. It will rival the 5-door Thar.

    Tata Altroz Turbo

    Expected Price: Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9 lakh

    Expected Launch: Early 2021

    The Altroz Turbo, as the name suggests, is a more powerful version of the Altroz hatchback. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 110PS of power. It will be offered in four variants: XT, XT(O), XZ and XZ(O). Features on the offer should be similar to the standard Altroz petrol. It gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and cruise control. Tata has already registered the Altroz Turbo with the Delhi RTO.  

    Skoda Rapid

    Expected Price: 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half 2021

    Skoda launched the Rapid sedan back in 2011 and since then sedan has not received any major update, save for a faceilft. Now, the carmaker is working on the next-gen Rapid and it is expected to go on sale in 2021. It will be based on VW’s groups new MQB A0-IN platform that will also underpin the upcoming Taigun and Vision-IN based SUVs.

    Since the new MQB A0 IN platform is heavily localised, expect the new Rapid to be competitively priced and loaded on the features front. Under the hood, it is likely to get the existing engine only, a 1.0-litre TSI unit making 110PS and 175Nm, mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

    Volkwagen Vento

    Expected Price: 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half 2021

    Like the Rapid, Volkwagen Vento also debuted back in 2010 and since then the sedan has not received a major update. The carmaker is now said to be working on a generation update for the compact sedan. Like the Rapid, it will also be based on VW group’s MQB A0 IN platform and it is expected to debut before the launch of the next-gen Rapid. Under the hood, the Vento is likely to carry forward the same 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that powers the car currently. It makes 110PS and 175Nm mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

    Volkswagen Taigun

    Expected Price: 9.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half 2021

    Volkswagen showcased the Taigun in 2020 ahead of the 2020 Auto Expo, and recently the carmaker listed the compact SUV on its India website. The Taigun is a C-segment SUV based on the MQB A0-IN platform which it will share with the Skoda Vision IN SUV. Under the hood, it is expected to get the same 1.0-litre TSI engine that powers the Rapid and Vento. It makes 110PS and 175Nm mated to a 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. VW might also introduce a more powerful 1.5L TSI engine on the higher variants of the Taigun, producing 150PS/250Nm and paired to a 7-speed DSG. The Taigun is expected to be loaded on the features front. It will a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, LED lighting, auto AC, connected car tech and panoramic sunroof. Safety features on offer should include upto 6 airbags, traction control and electronic stability control. Prices of the Taigun are expected to start under Rs 10 lakh and it will take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks. 

    Skoda Vision IN

    Expected Price:  9.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh

    Expected Launch: Mid-2021

    What Rapid is to Vento, the Vision IN is to the Taigun. As a result, the Vision IN will share its underpinnings, engines and features with the Taigun SUV. It will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform. Under the hood, it will get the same 1.0-litre TSI engine making 110PS/175Nm paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. Like the Taigun, the Vision IN might also get a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine in the higher variants. It makes 150PS/250Nm paired to a 7-speed DSG. Features on offer will include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, auto AC, LED lighting, connected car tech and a panoramic sunroof. For safety, it will get upto 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and hill launch assist. Expect the Skoda VIsion IN to be priced under Rs 10 lakh. It will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks. 

    Ford EcoSport

    Expected Price: Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh

    Expected Launch: Second half 2021

    Ford launched the EcoSport back in 2013 and followed it with a facelift in 2017. Now, it is about time that Ford gives the EcoSport a generation update, and it is said to be in the works, although it has not been spotted testing yet. The new EcoSport will look different from the global model as it will be developed in collaboration with Mahindra. It remains to be seen if it is actually a rebadged version of the existing XUV300 or not. 

    The Mahindra connection will also make its way under the hood of the new EcoSport. It is expected to be powered by Mahindra’s m-Stallion series of petrol engines. It might get XUV300’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 110PS and 200Nm paired to a 6-speed MT. Expect the new EcoSport to debut by the end of 2021. It will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Honda WR-V, Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger.
