Czech automaker Skoda will be launching many new models in India in order to boost its sales. Skoda will be also leading its parent company Volkswagen’s massive project named as the India Plan 2.0. Skoda is working on the highly localized MQB AO IN platform, which will underpin a number of more affordable cars under both Volkswagen and Skoda brand names.

The new Skoda Karoq global SUV is a one of the highly awaited upcoming launches in India. The Karoq SUV will be hitting the car market of India in early 2019. Like the full-sized Kodiaq, the compact Karoq is also based on the Volkswagen Group’s versatile global MQB platform. Under the hood, the SUV will get a 2.0L TDI diesel motor delivering 140 bhp of power.
The Karoq will come to India Skoda via the CKD route and will be locally assembled in India. The Skoda Karoq will go straight up against the likes of the premium compact SUVs in India such as the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. However, as it won’t be fully manufactured in India, the Karoq will be more expensive and is expect to a have a price range of Rs. 18 - 22 lakhs.
Skoda Vision X Concept based compact SUV
Skoda is developing the highly stylized Vision X Concept based all-new compact SUV. This model will be Skoda’s first to be based on the localized MQB AO In platform and will have India specific styling and features. It is expected to launch in India in 2020. The SUV’s global version is also on the anvil and is likely to be unveiled next year. This small urban SUV will be taking styling cues from the Vision X Concept.
This all-new compact SUV will be getting powered by Volkswagen’s new 1.0L TSI turbocharged petrol engine, and this engine will also be locally developed in India, which means that this new Skoda SUV is definitely expected to come with aggressive pricing.
Next Generation Skoda Rapid
As per reports, a new Skoda mid-sized sedan will launch in India following the compact SUV model. This new mid-sized sedan is likely to be the next generation Rapid. The new sedan model will also be based on the localized MQB AO In platform and is expected to launch in 2021.
Under the hood, it will get a 1.0L TSI turbocharged petrol mill only, while diesel engine version won’t be offered. The Rapid is a highly successful Skoda model, and its localization would be great for its market performance in India.
All-new Skoda Premium Hatchback
Up next would be an all-new premium hatchback model, again based on the localized MQB AO IN platform. This will mark Skoda’s re-entry in India premium hatchback segment. Thus, this model is expected to be the next generation Fabia, but it could very well be an entirely new model. This new premium hatchback from Skoda is likely to come towards the end of 2021 or early 2022.
