Variants Explained: 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

by Swati Sanchayi on Monday, Nov 26 2018

The second- generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been launched recently in the country. The MPV comes priced between Rs 7.44 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi) to Rs 10.9 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). The newly launched Ertiga is bigger with a number of noticeable changes in the vehicle. The official bookings for the 2018 Ertiga has commenced already at a token amount of Rs 11,000 with deliveries starting by the last week of November or the first week of December.

Mechanically, the all- new Ertiga comes powered by Suzuki’s in- house developed 1.5- liter K15 petrol, 4-cylinder engine which churns out 104.7 bhp and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual and a 4- speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the diesel engine is the same 1.3- liter Fiat sourced Multijet engine producing 90 bhp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a five- speed manual transmission only. Additionally, the new Ertiga also gets mild- hybrid technology on both petrol and diesel variants, similar to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The petrol variant gets two batteries with one battery used to deliver torque for daily driving activities. Both the petrol and diesel variants get 5- speed gearboxes, while a 4- speed torque converter gearbox is there on offer as an option with the petrol variant only. The manufacturer is also preparing to launch the CNG variant of the Ertiga MPV within the first half of 2019. The CNG version of the Ertiga will also come powered by the same K15 1.5- liter mill and might also offer Maruti Suzuki Smart Hybrid tech with a dual-battery setup.

The MPV comes underpinned by Maruti Suzuki's latest fifth generation HEARTECT platform which currently underpins the Baleno, Swift and the Dzire. The platform has helped the MPV shed some weight as well as has enhanced safety on this new generation model. Also, the 2018 Ertiga is now longer by 99 mm, wider by 40 mm and taller by 5 mm. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,740 mm. The automaker has offered the vehicle in five exterior color options- Pearl Metallic Auburn Red, Metallic Magma Grey, Real Metallic Oxford Blue, Pearl Arctic White and Metallic Silky Silver.
