Mahindra Racing Commits To Formula E GEN4 Era (Press Release) | V3Cars
Mahindra Racing have confirmed their participation as a manufacturer in the upcoming Formula E GEN4 era starting 2026/27. Announced alongside the reveal of the M12Electro, the commitment extends Mahindra’s long association with the championship and its push for EV innovation.
Here’s what Mahindra Racing have to say about the Formula E GEN4 announcement:
Mahindra Racing today announced its commitment as a manufacturer to the GEN4 era of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, which commences from the beginning of the 2026/27 season.
The news – announced on stage at a special unveiling of the team’s new Mahindra M12Electro in India - extends a strong, long-term relationship between the Indian manufacturer and the FIA’s all-electric racing series, stretching back to 2013, when Mahindra became a founding team in ABB FIA Formula E, and the first OEM to commit to the championship at its inception.
Mahindra Racing has since grown over the past 12 years to become of the standout names in ABB FIA Formula E, amassing five E-Prix victories, 29 podium finishes, 11 pole positions and over 1,000 championship points.
That journey is now set to continue until at least 2030, building on a transformative 18 months that has seen Mahindra Racing rise from the back of the grid to become regular podium contenders under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand.
At the heart of that was a revolutionised, re-designed car – the M11Electro – in which the team’s driver pairing of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara scored five podiums between them in Season 11, en route to a stellar fourth in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Today, the team also launched the M12Electro – it’s successor – the car with which the team intends to continue competing for regular podiums and retain a top-five position in the World Championship this season, cementing its status as ‘one to watch’ in the season ahead.
The vision as the team develops it’s GEN4 contender is clear – to keep building momentum, chase marginal gains and become an established contender for the World Championship in the near future, competing on a global stage against the likes of Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan and other blue-chip manufacturers.
The full technical specifications for GEN4 were recently revealed by the FIA and Formula E, and is once against a transformative step forward, in terms of both performance and technology. Fans are set to be electrified by the on-track action, with 450kw of peak race power, and a 600kw ATTACK MODE to enable powerful overtakes. The car also features 700kw of regenerative braking, and race energy capacity up to 55kWh to allow for bolder strategy calls.
The GEN4 will also have two aerodynamic configurations – high-downforce for qualifying, and low-downforce for race scenarios, and the construction process features 100% recyclable materials, advancing the championship’s position as the most sustainable form of motorsport worldwide, aligned to the Mahindra Group’s own bold sustainability initiatives.
It gives Mahindra Racing the opportunity to use ABB FIA Formula E – a place where sport, human ingenuity and cutting-edge technology intersect – as a platform to take learnings from the track into a wide range of markets.
Mahindra Racing’s performance on-track is fuelled by a desire to push the limits of innovation and technology and reinforced by an equally robust commitment to demonstrating excellence in sustainability.
Mahindra Racing was the first ABB FIA Formula E team to be awarded the FIA’s prestigious Three-Star Accreditation, and in Season 11 embarked on a new chapter with ‘Planet Positive’, a programme focused on driving positive impact in communities, economies, and the environment.
This initiative, aligned with the team's commitment to sustainability and innovation, aims to empower local communities, support sustainable economic development, and accelerate climate-positive solutions. It represents a movement towards a better future, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Mr. R Velusamy, Chairman of Mahindra Racing said:
Mahindra Racing has always been a symbol of our commitment to the Race to Road journey - where cutting-edge innovation on the track directly shapes the clean, intelligent, and high-performance mobility solutions we deliver to customers. Formula E is a powerful platforms for innovating new technology, giving us the ability to experiment, learn, and advance electric powertrain efficiency, sustainable materials, and software intelligence.
As we step into the GEN4 era, our ambition only grows stronger. Continuing this journey till 2030 is a testament to our belief in the sport, in electrification, and in India’s role in leading global sustainable mobility. We are proud to champion this future, and GEN4 represents an exciting new chapter for Mahindra Racing and the Mahindra Group.”
Frederic Bertrand, Team Principal of Mahindra Racing said:
I’m delighted to share this announcement that Mahindra Racing will remain in Formula E as a manufacturer for the GEN4 era.
“As a team, we have been on a fantastic journey over the past two seasons. What we have built and achieved as a group has been exceptional, and with this announcement, we now have the platform to keep growing and developing and achieve even greater success in the future.
“None of this would be possible without our colleagues across the Mahindra Group. They have bought into the project and the vision, and we will keep working hard to not only make India proud but also showcase exactly why it has the potential to be a major player on the world stage in the automotive and technology industries.
“Their enthusiasm to ‘Scream Electric’ is hugely inspiring to the whole team, and we will continue to represent them with pride in this next exciting chapter of our Formula E story in the coming years.
Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E said:
