The pros or advantages of Toyota Rumion petrol/CNG are:
*Survivability score depends on how well the car protects the driver and front passenger’s critical body parts like the head, neck and chest in the GNCAP crash tests.
The Toyota Rumion petrol/CNG has the following shortcomings or problems:
The Toyota Rumion is available with 3 powertrain options:
The petrol-manual range costs between Rs. 10.29 lakh and Rs. 12.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2 petrol-automatic variants cost Rs. 11.89 lakh and Rs. 13.68 lakh. In the case of the base variant, the automatic transmission costs Rs. 1.60 more than the manual. For the top model, the price gap is Rs. 1.50 lakh for the automatic transmission.
CNG bi-fuel option is available in only the base variant. It costs Rs. 11.24 lakh, which is Rs. 95,000 more than the Rumion S petrol-manual.
Here’s a quick Rumion vs Ertiga price comparison of the comparable variants:
As you can see, the Toyota Rumion costs Rs. 51,000 - 61,000 more than comparable variants of the Ertiga.
The S variant of the Rumion is available with a CNG-manual, petrol-manual and petrol-automatic powertrains. With the petrol-manual powertrain, it costs Rs. 10.29 lakh. With the automatic transmission, it costs Rs. 11.89 lakh, which is Rs. 1.60 lakh more than the manual. The Rumion S CNG-manual costs Rs. 11.24 lakh, which is Rs. 95,000 more than the S petrol-manual.
It gets the following notable features:
While the S variant seems fairly loaded with mostly must-have features, but you may miss the following features:
The base variant gets a good number of features, which are mostly must-have for a car of this size. For Rumion CNG bi-fuel buyers, this is the only option. But we’ll strongly suggest the petrol-manual buyers to upgrade to the mid-spec G variant as it easily justifies the incremental asking price for the additional features. For petrol-automatic buyers also, it’s better to upgrade to the V variant.
The G variant is only available with the petrol-manual powertrain. Compared to the S petrol-manual, it costs Rs. 1.16 lakh more.
The G variant of the Toyota Rumion only gets a petrol-manual powertrain option. It adds the following notable features to the mix:
You may miss the following features in this variant:
The most unfortunate thing about the G variant is that it doesn’t get the automatic transmission. If it did, then that would have earned our top recommendation. But, since it doesn’t, we’ll suggest Rumion automatic buyers to upgrade to the V trim instead. For petrol-manual buyers, the G is our top recommendation as it has the features for a balanced ownership experience. Moreover, it also offers the best value for money among the 3 petrol-manual variants.
The V variant of the Rumion costs Rs. 12.18 lakh with the manual and Rs. 13.68 lakh with the automatic transmission. The V variant costs Rs. 1.89 lakh more than the lower G variant. The automatic transmission itself costs Rs. 1.50 lakh more than the V petrol-manual.
The V top variant of the Rumion is available with petrol-manual and petrol-automatic options. It adds the following notable features:
Even in the top variant, you don’t get features like:
For petrol-manual buyers, this variant is worth considering for the additional safety and convenience features. With the automatic transmission, the V variant is our top recommendation as the mid-spec G automatic is not available.
If you are buying the Rumion with a manual transmission, then the G variant offers better value than the other 2 variants. Even the top variant is worth considering but it offers slightly less value than the mid-spec G trim. For Rumion CNG bi-fuel buyers, there’s only one option — Rumion S. So, there's not much of a choice here.
Between the 2 petrol-automatic variants, the top variant is our recommendation. We wish the mid, G variant also got an automatic transmission. Then, the G automatic would have become the variant, which is easiest to recommend.
Since the Rumion, Ertiga and XL6 are the same car with mild differences, they all offer similar power, torque, transmission options and fuel efficiency figures. The Carens is a more powerful car with better torque output and a 6-speed manual transmission but it has a considerably lower mileage figure.
Because of its shorter, city-friendly gearing, the Rumion with the manual transmission may feel stressed and on the highways and expressways. On the flip side, the automatic has tall ratios and can cruise on expressways all day long while spinning the engine at fairly low RPMs.
